      Hi,

I would like to check why the school started using the Math textbook \"Think\" Mathematics. The school used to use the textbook\"Discovering Mathematics \". I saw the booklist for previous years and notice this. I personally think Discovering Mathematics textbook is better
I have been told by my Mathematics teacher that my cohort had a change of syllabus in Mathematics and that we were the first to take this revised syllabus. I believe this played a role in the switching of textbooks. Hope I answered your question!

Time for Round 2! When I was in Secondary 1, I had previously helped parents on this forum decide if CVSS is the best choice for their child. I am currently still studying in CVSS as a Secondary 2 moving onto Secondary 3 in 2022 and would be here to answer your questions about my school!

Here is some basic information I presume you may need to know more:

      School Website: https://compassvalesec.moe.edu.sg/
      Primary 6 Outreach Video: https://compassvalesec.moe.edu.sg/announcements/cvss-outreach-video-for-2021-p6-pupils-parents

I hope you all are happy with your own/child's results no matter whether you are a student or a parent! Like I said, I would be here again to answer any further questions!

Hi, i understand that some schools allow them to use handphone for kahoot but control during class usage may depends on each school. With secondary students each getting a digital device in 2021, this may solve the problem as moe may have some features to \"lock\" access or limit each usage.
I've seen it on the news few months ago, but my school never brief us on this so I don't know whether we will receive/bring...

Are you allowed to use hp in class?

I believe the question is with regards to the use of handphone in class

In that case, in my school, handphones are not allowed in class unless under teachers' permission. We only use handphones for kahoot or if the teachers allows us to use our handphones for research purposes (could be for Art, PW, etc.)

In my school, during FCE, we place everything we have in our pockets (this includes handphones) on the teacher's desk. Could be for safety reason but I am unsure.

I have not experienced or seen others have an emergency when it comes to handphones so I can't answer that part... Sorry!

What do you mean hp? As in the computer? I will assume you mean the hp computers.

It really depends on the school, level and stream. In my school, NT students will use the hp computers a lot in their Upper Sec years to prepare for CPA practical. The Express and NA students in my school rarely use the hp computers, if I remember, I only used it five times this year. For my school, during Music lessons we will use a Surface Pro instead. Some schools may offer O Level Computing which has a practical component, which will increase the use of computers in those schools (I'm unsure if they use hp computers since my school don't offer Computing).

From what I see, Music, PW, and CPA (CPA is NT only) are the subjects that will most likely require students to make use of the computers. Sorry I can't give much information, but this is what I observed and concluded.

Anymore questions on transitioning to Secondary School, please feel free to ask me here or in PM!

How much sleep time do you have?

Do most sec 1 students in your school have a cellphone?

I sleep quite late (I have the option to sleep early it's just I don't want to)
So if you assume we follow the usual recommendation of sleeping at 9pm, that would be around 7-9 hours of sleep (depending on how far your house is from the school)

In my school, yes, a huge majority of Sec 1 students bring their cellphones. (Maybe only 1 or 0 students in each class does not bring a cellphone). If you mean have, everyone will have, but there will be some students that won't bring.

Any study tips you would recommend for the P6's that are going to Secondary 1 next year?
Languages: Feedback is important! This will help in your narrative or expository writing!

Mathematics and Science: Understand concepts and memorise formulas and definitions! If you have questions, please ask immediately! You will lose out very fast if you wait last minute!

Humanities: Feedback for essays are important! Don't just memorise, also understand them at the same time, that way you can easily link concepts in your essays! Also, if you are slow writer, practise writing fast, I can't emphasise so much! I lost 7 marks in History because I had no time to write 1 essay! (My school tests History with 4 SUPER LONG answer questions and 2 essays! All in 1 hour and 30 minutes!)

D&T and F&N: Please follow instructions very clearly! If you are unsure, ask your teacher! My classmate unsure of which tool to use in D&T, he end up cracking his plastic in half accidentally! :scared:

Overall, please submit coursework homework on time! (Especially Art) One of my classmates dropped from B3 to C6 in Art like that!
