In a nutshell, DSA is not meant for all rounded, brilliant children. It’s for children who shine beyond their peers in their chosen sport, instrument, and in one or two academic subjects, and with the remaining subjects being average/slightly above average - children who may not be able to get into the school via T score otherwise. Unfortunately, a lot of children who shine in one subject may also shine in other subjects, and those are the ones who may not make the cut because they are overall too good at everything. And herein lies the problem with academic DSA.
That’s my take on it, anyway!

I think you are right. I've been lurking on DSA threads for a few years now (just out of interest - no kid old enough to DSA yet), but a few years ago, and maybe up until a couple of years ago, it seemed like pretty much all the successful RI academic DSAs were Geppers. The MS success rate was extremely low, if not very close to nil. (Of course, we only have as much info as is shared here!) Now it seems like, for better or worse, things are changing and more MS successes are being reported, and as a result, more GEP rejections.
As i read, something is becoming clearer. A more stringent criterion is being applied to geppers. Even a gold medal does not get you an interview for math domain.
If you are MS, in the name of diversity, even no math medals also can get you an interview for RI. Not sure if this really just apply to the uber-competitive math or is across the board?
It's really no loss to RI. They can be pretty confident that probably most of the unsuccessful applicants will apply by T Score anyway, so they'll still end up getting those stellar kids. -

There are also police doing random checks on vehicles - if you are going to work, you need a letter from your boss saying you are an essential service. No letter, you might get a warning. If they see more than one person in a car, that’s a red flag, as you’re not supposed to be driving places, except to work and supermarket, and only one person should be in the car for those trips. Of course, it’s all random, so they won’t catch everyone, but just the thought of potentially being caught is a bit of a deterrent I think.

You’re lucky you still have takeaways available! I’m currently in NZ, and we have no takeaways, no deliveries/drive thru, nothing. We’ve been cooking three meals a day for almost a month now. Lol. It’s been good, though. I miss takeaways, but we’ve started making the stuff we want to eat instead of ing, and he’s got a list of things he wants to try and make lol. We are also much stricter - supermarkets have a one in, one out policy when they reach a certain number of people, and only one person per family can go in and shop. Can’t complain. It all seems to be working - we are down to single digit new cases now, and I’m looking forward to drive through mcds sometime in the next couple of weeks 😂
How does New Zealand enforce \" only allow one member, per household to \" visit supermarket policy ?
What if the husband queue in front first, then queuing behind him are 4 other strangers, from other household. And behind these 4 strangers is his teenage daughter, plus 1 other stranger, then after that is his own son queuing up ? That means, they tricky, split up the queuing sequence of family members, from the same household.
In this case, both husband and his 2 children still end up entering the supermarket together eventually.
No more can allow \"only one per household family, to visit supermarket\"
Do they check for anything, at entrance of super market, before entering ?
-

Well, I guess if you want to do that, that’s your prerogative! But why? Lol. No, they don’t check anything. It’s just taken that families/couples will queue together to try and get in, but the person at the door will only allow one of them in.

Don’t get me wrong - we have our share of idiots. But people are generally behaving, and it helps that the rules are very clear - no driving unless it’s to work (if you’re in essential services) or to the supermarket. And you’re only supposed to shop locally. And because only one person per family can shop, supermarkets don’t become a place where people go because they’re bored. It’s get in, do it, get out.

Yes, NZ is doing very well in this crisis. -

The outdoor exercising should stop. It is totally unnecessary. Even professional athletes can exercise within their own homes, quarantined people can run marathons to-and-fro within their balcony.
But how come suddenly so many Singaporeans who never bothered exercising before, suddenly all became fitness enthusiasts, every day must go out for jog at East Coast Park. :siao: We started doing our own Tabata aerobics exercises at home to work off all the fats from sitting too long doing WFH/HBL. Eat smaller portions also to conserve our food/grocery rations. Act like it’s war time because it’s war ain’t it?? Ridiculous when even grown adults cry on social media just because McD shut down. Cannot eat other food meh. Will starve meh.
I understand some Singaporeans may be living in cramped housing and crave some fresh air & want to stretch their legs. But more cramped than the FW dormitories meh?
-

NZ will go into lockdown on Thursday for four weeks. Hoping we can stop the spread before it gets too overwhelming. Most people seem to get it. Hopefully.
It’s looking grave here in England. We are on the verge of a mandatory lockdown, as at the weekend a lot of the population nonchalantly ignored governmental advice and engaged in normal everyday activities at malls, supermarkets, pubs, parks and beaches - in huge numbers with no physical distancing. Our trajectory is not too dissimilar to that of Italy. Let’s see what this week brings. I have high hopes and very low expectations. -

Probably have to wait until the end of CNY2020 to see how it is trending after all the precaution implementedNebbermind\" post_id=\"1961318\" time=\"1580429654\" user_id=\"15571:

with the immigration measures tight in place, we should be able to control IF there is no community spread (praying for NO)
But in China which is so big, the situation may be worser , weather is not helping which is wet, cold
Hope dun get into India - i am not confident this place can contain virus well with such bad sanitary & hygiene
developing countries (vietnam, cambodia , Indo, etc may also be not able to manage & badly hit if there are affected people :(
India has one confirmed case, apparently.
