    • RE: Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment

      ChiefKiasu:
I appreciate that you are excited about Phonics Read, and want to get fast feedback, but one post in the right forum would have done the trick. I have removed the other postings you made in the other forums.

Phonics Read appear to go by 2 names in Singapore:
      http://www.phonicsread.com/index.htm
and http://www.phonicsread.com/index.htm (in collaboration with i3 Singapore Post)

These 2 appear to be operated by the same group of people. They claim that children can learn up to 500 words in 6 lessons (1.5 months). They also appear to have a regional presence in KL and even Yangon.

Their services appear to be quite similar to the more established http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/enrichment/total-literacy-international-pte-ltd programme.

Personally speaking, given a choice, I would be more comfortable going with the I Can Read programme.

      Chief Kiasu,

I would like to hear yr opinion, my K1 gal have short attention span. She sometimes answer my question without thinking, thus giving the wrong answer. When I repeat my question again, she will know she gave the wrong answer so she will think before answer. What method should I use on her? which should I enrol for my K1 gal, Phonics & reading or I Can Read programme? Pls advise.

      kaitlynangelica,

Well, she is more well-versed and discipline than before. In fact, when she was in the church kindergarten she attended enrichment classes held by the kindergarten itself too but not much improvement. She is currently attending the full day care and I pay only $400/per mth aft subsidy. Nothing xtra, except for the transport arrangement to and fro. ($60/per mth)

      Hi kaitlynangelica,

Learning Seeds is located at PSA Club near ViVo city. Just enrolled my gal in Mar'08 and saw some improvement. My gal attended a church kindergarten for 2yrs before the switch. Learning Seeds have their own compound. There's a mixture of foreigners and locals. Their fees are reasonable.(In fact its cheap) There's also a montessori room and yamaha music corner. They actually engaged a montessori and yamaha teacher from outside. I like the director as she is friendly and showed me around and answer to all my queries before I enrolled. Hee.. Till now, they still didnt collect any payment for her sch fees, deposit, uniform and transport. (almost 3 mths liao) Not so money face unlike other schools. In fact, I just called them up to ask them about deduction of payment from my bank a/c  you may check from their website http://learningseedscdc.com/

      hi tamarind,

My daughter is also in kindergarten 1 and every week there will be a list of 5-7 words of spelling and homework of about 3-10pgs.
Spelling words includes aeroplane, basket etc...
I think not only PCF standard is high, basically now the education standard in Singapore is very high. We send our kids to school for education but the teachers conveniently throw the balls back to parents šŸ˜ž
