If 50+ choosing for META… I am wonder how many of them have opt out to join META since they are doing GEP chinese? The other subjects is the same with HA & MA classes, unless the child is good in subject. If not is a headache. This GEP Chinese is added additional stress cos will affect the overall result.

It is not easy for a child to copy if chinese subject is weak.

Whether is HA, META or MA, the Kids in those classes are
doing very well becos they just miss that by few points…

Need to clear my doubt further if only 1 HA class then those kids must have super good result to squeeze in to 1 HA class out of 13 classes.

If I remember in P4 there are 2 or 4 HA classes.. 4 GEP classes & 9 classes are MA classes. I may be wrong. It must be very stressful for just 1 HA class only.

How we know if your kid is in HA classes?

Sorry I'm not very sure about the class allocation, as my DD has no
      older sibling to ask.

Just wondering, the different categories of classes were not mentioned during the Meet The Parents session?

Nope not that I know since P2.. Teacher will not disclosed which are HA classes.

How many HA classes in primary 4?

I also have this question, if din opt for META class, will go HA classes?
And how many students who selected for META but din opt in.
      Hi parents,

A letter has given out by the teacher today to the students who have chosen to go META class in primary 4.

Appreciate your advise do you know if there are students did not join the META class? And how many HA classes in Primary 4?

Some said both standard is about the same. If opt out I suppose the kid will go HA class right?

After the GEP selection… In primary 4, NYPS has 4 GEP classes, 2 META classes and 4 HA classes. Am I right??

I heard this year GEP selection result, about 25 to 30 students have been selected. Boys more than girls… and mainly were from P3 HA classes… Wow NYPS students already take up one class Liao leh.

So, for parents out there whose kids are selected to join the GEP, do consider carefully if your child will be happy in the program for the next 3 years. The Selection Test only shows that the child has the ABILITY to join the GEP but it does not take into consideration the 'readiness', maturity and resilience of the child in such kind of demanding environment.

You can argue that 'how can one know unless one try'. Take a moment to reflect on your child's reaction when he/she is presented with a setback/challenge. It will give you a good idea on your child may react in such a rigorous curriculum.

I don't quite understand the advice that those on the fence should not be dissuaded from going for the GEP.

Quite the contrary, I think these people _should_ actively be persuaded to or dissuaded from making such a decision, as long as the point of no return hasn't been reached. This point is the closing date to opt for the GEP.

Why else would you want to engage in such a discussion in the forum if your minds are already made up?

While I have seen (& given) quite a few inputs to support joing the GEP, the above is the 1st good & valid one against it.

Having said this, I'm of the view that once a learned decision is made, there should be no looking back (at the decision). There should have no regrets over whatever decision made, especially so involving the child. One should always look forward.

If the decision turned out to be detrimental, make adjustments to remedy the situation. If the GEP is not suitable, go back to mainstream. There's no shame in this, only if stubbornly stick with something that doesn't work.

If you decide to forego it and later think your child should've been in such a program, customize your own for your child's benefits. Let them learn more than the mainstream curriculum. Stretch their limits & broaden their learning horizons. This applies to those children who are not selected as well.

Just a clarification - I am NOT against joining the GEP if one is selected. I am advocating that once should consider carefully other aspects of the child (which are often overlooked) before jumping into the wagon.

I am all for 'stretching their limits and broadening their learning horizons'. However, parents should be realistic on their child's strengths and weaknesses and accept them as they are.

As for 'going back the mainstream', it's not an easy step to take.[/quote]I actually do agreed what AppleCrumble has mentioned in the post. As a parent we should know your child's strength and weakness, and decide what is the best option for your child...

AppleCrumble just stated the facts about this program.

      Cheers....

Hamster a big salute to you and parents who have made the decision to not accept the GEP offer after discussion with their child.. :salute:

Its really a tough decision. But ultimately the GEP education system is catered for children who are deemed gifted with their own testing methods. To get a desired outcome, cooperation and eagerness from the child who is selected is most important.

If the child (for whatever reason) is not feeling comfortable, there is no point in forcing them to join the 3 year long journey and then realize in the end that it would have been better if the child did not take it..

Lot of people around you will be shocked (as I am myself too.. 😓 ) by your personal decision, But as everyone in the KSP forum rightly pointed out.. we do not know your child and what is good for her/him..

As a parent you will be the only person who knows your child inside-out..so stand-by your decision..

All the best to your child..A gifted child will shine..no matter where..
Of course as a parent we will always support and motivate them.. :rahrah:
      :thankyou: 😄
