zachyuan:
New students are encouraged to attend the orientation. To meet their new classmates as well as get to know their teachers. Parents can take the opportunity to ask questions and perhaps let the teachers know more about your child. My son will be joining the N1 PM class. Who else will be going for Dec orientation?
Are we supposed to bring the kid along? -

Btw, does Nafa teaches violin as well on top of keyboard? Saw some year end concerts posted online and some students are playing violin.
In nafa kindergarten, they only learn keyboard. However, if the kids are interested or show musical talent, they have priority to enrol in Nafa School of young talent (SYT) course in the Nafa main campus in bencoolen. That will be like extra music class. They offer various instrument like violin, flute, piano and Chinese instruments. You can check out SYT info on Nafa website. The music courses are quite popular but they require lots of commitment from parents and child. The standard of SYT courses is also very high.
Current NAK students attending SYT will be given opportunities to perform at the year end concert every year. Of they only choose the best.....

RE: GEP 2014 - Class Starting P4 in 2015
Checking in for DS3. He is looking forward to be in the programme after seeing DS1 gone through it. He thinks creating board games for ERP, doing social studies, IVP projects is more fun than just studying for exams. When he was four, he asked me if he can attend a GEP kindergarten when his brother got transferred to a GEP school. :rotflmao:

DS2 is quite different from DS1, in terms of personality, interests etc. Hopefully, RI is the right fit for him. So far his experience in RI has been a warm and welcoming one. He was admitted via DSA sport and has started his first training with the seniors. So far so good......
Hexagon.. Your DS2 doesn't want to join his gor-gor at ACSI ?

Scary Nite was removed from 2012 Yr-1 Orientation program.. Maybe the feedback from previous batches was \"VERY scary!!\".. :yikes:
Good to know, cos DS2 is a true blue scaredy cat. He thought some parts of Maze Runner is scary.... :scratchhead: -

Don't throw away your son's Primary school PE attire. Orientation camp requires 4 PE attire which can be RI PE attire and primary school PE attire.
Thanks! Good tip.
Do they still have the scary night programmes for orientation camp? -
RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
:welcome: to RI, hexagon..
You will be given the Booklist on Registration Day. So, you don't need to buy any textbooks now..
Most of the textbooks are optional items, as the teachers hardly use them in class. They are mostly for reference only. Oh, except the HCL textbooks & workbooks..
Btw.. RI uses her own in-house History textbooks, so please don't buy any History textbooks from Popular bookstore 'in advance'..
The textbooks for Geography are for Upper Sec, while those for Chemistry, Physics & Biology are for O Levels. So, you don't need to buy many textbooks from Year-2 onwards, if you decide to buy them in Year-1..
Thank you for the warm welcome ifirefly! Looks like it's quite common for IP schools using text books for reference only. DS1 who is in ACSI hardly used his textbooks. His year 1 textbooks are in mint condition.
Thank you for all the helpful tips
