Depend on which diploma your DS is taking. If doing just ARSM, the exam would still be conducted on upright piano in standard exam room. For ATCL, you can opt to do the exam on upright piano as well. Only for DipABRSM then need to play on an actual grand piano, and yes, for that ideally should get a proper grand if possible.jt2000_star\" post_id=\"1986229\" time=\"1594954072\" user_id=\"35132:
Hi, would need some advice. I have an upright piano at home. My DS is currently taking his diploma in piano. I am thinking of upgrading the piano to an upright grand (2nd hand) due to space constraints (hse cant accommodate a grand). But not sure if it is worth to upgrade cos am uncertain if the upright grand and upgright piano is abt the same. Appreciate yr views. Thks!
To be honest upright grand is just a fancy term for the highest end upright piano. Yes, some models actually have sostenuto pedal, but the actual application of it is optional. As long your current upright piano is an exam model e.g. U1 or K1, its more than sufficient for first level Diploma. -

Hi, my ds, currently in sec1, has been offered to go to 华庆班 for acc. Though he has expressed interest, I am not sure if i shld let him do it as he is already struggling his other core subjects. Can anyone share with me what this programme entails? Thanks!
My kid has never been called up for 华庆班, so I can only share from what I know.
I gather that these boys will be asked to help organise Chinese-related activities in school as well as participate in inter-school competitions such as 华文大比拼。 Sometimes they may also attend activities from other schools or 华文会馆。
Since your child is selected, why not give it a try? He will probably enjoy it if he has a genuine interest in Chinese
Since he is only in Sec 1, not to worry too much about him not coping. Just monitor his progress, Moreover, CHS has Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) from Sec 3. By involving in these activities, he will probably have a good feel if he wants to take up the programme ( which is geared towards the study of Chinese culture ) when given the chance to do so upon obtaining good EL & CL grades at end of sec 2. -
