    • Is tuition really necessary for primary school students?

Hello parents, I am doing a project on tuition in Singapore and am looking for parents with children in primary school.

If you have 5–10 minutes to spare, please help to fill in this survey — every response makes a difference.

Hi all just wana ask as i saw someone said in the previous post that we should put in our best subject for DSA. I’m just wondering, if let’s say I get AL1 for math and AL2 for EL but there are 20 other people who’s getting AL1 for math but none for EL, should I still be putting math as my choice as it’s my best subject? Or should I use EL instead? Thanks
Personally I felt it shouldn’t b the best subject but should b someone the child is passionate about.

We also received the same, “not been shortlisted to the next phase of your application for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Aesthetics and Mathematics)”. This is after submission of personal statement.

As a future reference for parents, here’s my son’s personal statement that didn’t get him through: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13k95HK7sUs4YWo87lEUiJCLRQtTswrbf/view?usp=drivesdk

impressive profile. I believe your son can get in any school by psle result.

NJC motto is “service with honor “
I think they are looking for students along that line. To service and serve the community with humanity and grace.

Think some may not know the process of DSA.

      Step 1
      1) to submit the child achievement awards in the DSAapplication form by MOE.

      2) wait for shortlist

      3) when u received email from the shortlisted schools. The school will inform u what to be submitted. Every school is different.
Eg proof of awards or profile.

      4) audition or interview

      5) wait for result

    • RE: 2024 PSLE Discussions and Strategies

I’m very surprised to even see this thread.

Frankly, schools are full of rules to follow and right and wrong; hardly anything for the kids to find anything interesting. How to truly nurture their curiousity to learn and find motivation to study. It’s a myth to me. I found that school Teachers has too much to handle and teach too little. But when it come to exam times expect that kids to perform x10 beyond their teaching.

A lot of work is done outside of school, tuitions, camps, enrichments…etc

The kids are not taught or to have an interest or a passion they can fall back on when they have free time. Simply because they have no free time.

The only free time is after psle. Where u will find a bunch of P6s aimlessly not knowing what to do. Cos what they know is just study.

Regarding the AL banding vs COP topic

The intention of the new system is to discourage the students/parents chasing over a single mark for the dream school. Be Top4, IP, or even school nearby. It can be quite frustrating to miss out the dream school/only school just by a mark.

      Personally I encountered this in 2019 🙂
My girl scored 263 (3A*+A) and my friend's daughter scored 261 (3A*+1). That year the COP for RGS was 261, and my friend's daughter got rejected. Actually, both my friend and her girl was quite upset about it.

So under the new banding system, you can see both girls will score a AL5. So my girl will not have the advantage anymore under this new system. Who knows, the end result might be different for my girl during the S1 posting if it is based on AL banding.

I believe my friend will wish for the S1 posting to be AL banding instead and definitely it will not be what I would like to have - lol.

So it is true that this year, there will be not much differentiation between a student scoring 259/260/261..even 263 anymore. Most likely they will be banded under AL5. The competition for the place will be intense.

To be honest, I'm also curious how the selection will be...who is in who it out .....

Anyway - it is a tough year for all student and parents to go through PSLE during this period.
Great job and all the best to all. You're the warriors!!!!
Last year COP was even calculated by the decimal.
2 students with same t score may not get to the same school. The one that got in has a higher decimal in her t score. The rejected one has a lower decimal.

      Hi parents,

Anyone can share if under DSA dual track “O”level/IP, is the acceptance to go to “O” level or IP based on PSLE result? What will be the PSLE result to be accepted into DSA IP?

      Thank you.[/quote]
Based on last year experience if u accept O track it will b o track no matter how high is your psle result. But u can appeal to the school and see if possible
