Anyone here know when next year sec 3 boarding programme will be open for application?

Students can opt to stay either year 3 term 2 or term 3 or year 4 term 1. The application will usually be open few weeks before the intended stay.

I would like to compliment the teachers in DHS.

It was raining cats and dogs just before the A Level paper this afternoon. Though I drove my girl to school, I was worried for those who were taking public transport. After the paper, my girl told me that some teachers actually went to the bus stop and waited for these students with umbrella. It was such a warm and touching act. Good job and thank you, DHS teachers!

      Hi Gearhat,

      Thanks for sharing.

I've heard lots of JC students (not just DHS) don't do very well in CTs and Prelims. But they will generally do much better in A levels. Is that true for DHS based on your cohorts (or among your friends)? Is it because the school papers are tougher than actual A levels?
Hi everyone!

Just came across this forum and found it very interesting to read. I'm an ex-Dunmanian who graduated last year and I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in DHS.

Should any of you parents have any questions regarding dhs/ junior high/ senior high/ a-levels or anything else I'll try my best to answer 🙂 and give a student's perspective of course.

      Hi gearhat,
A warm welcome to u…….. :rahrah:
It’s great to see current or ex dunmanians' postings here….
So feel free to come in here often, and yes, likely that i/we will have questions to ask abt senior high…..
Hmm…..to begin with...so what is yr subj combination for yr 5 ?
how stressful isit in senior high ? 😉

      Hi Augmum!

I took PCME (Phys, Chem, Maths, Econs) in yr 5 which is one of the more popular combinations. and I'm more interested in the science subjects (rather than language/ humanities).

Most students will say that senior high is alot more stressful than junior high. I mean, of course lah, a-levels is nearing and everyone will enter 'exam-mode', much like psle period. But personally I felt like it was ok especially towards the end. I did struggle with Econs and GP in yr 5 because my humanities/ languages were weaker but with practice it became better during a-levels.

I think alot of the stress comes when students don't do well and they start to panic and start getting (too much) tuition because all their friends are having tuition also. I mean, some times tuition can help but alot of times it doesn't.

Curriculum-wise, there will be more paper work to do and less of the more fun stuff like in junior high. I remember I did alot of roleplay and creative projects in JH, not sure if its still the same now.

I think it's best that your child choose the subjects that she like so that she won't feel stressed while studying. I have alot of friends who were stressed because they were studying things that they were not interested in.

Ok, long reply but just to add something about SBGE. I was sorted into an SBGE maths class in yr3 and the only difference was that we had abit more enrichment in maths and maybe the teacher could go a little faster and teach more interesting stuff, like real-life applications of the things we learn. I was from normal sec 1/2 class though.

Thank you vk2010 & Mandymummy. My DS senior (2 yrs older) goes to RI via school bus from the east. Just my bad that I'd lost their contact. Guess I'll have to call up all the 3 schools to check which is most convenient.

Another question - for RI students taking 3rd language, do the pupils make their own way to moelc? How far is it from school?

      Hi Paddy Field,

I'm staying in the east and there is a school bus (van) from my place to HCI ($115/mth). There is also bus transport arranged by the school to take students to both Bishan/Newton for their 3rd lang ($50/year).

      Hope the above info helps.

      Thank you, JustKP.

May I know which is the nearest MRT station from HCI and what bus can I take to the MRT station.

I think the nearest is Newton station. He can take 171 from NJC side. Alternatively, he can take 174 which will take him to the stretch of orchard road and he can then alight at orchard, somerset or dhoby ghaut station.

Yes, it's really a Great Achievement. I'm most proud of them as DHS team members are purely locals. Not like many schools who 'buy' China players. Good job DHS!

As for the age, don't think RGS will be so silly to put a 19 yrs old in C div. They'll be disqualified if it's true.

So which schools have 'bought' China players?

Haha, for me to know, for you to find out! :?

      thanks sall,
but it will be a very TOUGH fight. 😉

      Lost 2-3.
Btw, does C-division team consist of any other levels students, beside sec 2? Dd told me the RGS player for the deciding match is 19 years old. DH's one is 14.Nevertheless, the result shows DH has a strong team!

no idea whether the team consist of any other level students besides sec2.

wow....isit really 19 yrs old vs 14 yrs old? 😛

Going to the Finals is already a Big Achievement. :celebrate:
Yes, it's really a Great Achievement. I'm most proud of them as DHS team members are purely locals. Not like many schools who 'buy' China players. Good job DHS!

Hi JustKP, thanks for your input! I wanted very much to visit Hakone. But my hubby keep telling me its not possible to make a day trip there. Is it true? If I m based in Tokyo hotel, can I still make a day trip to Hakone if I have 4 days in Toyko? 4 days because first day reach Tokyo cannot be counted as it will be already night time.

He said 2 days in Disneyland and 1 day in Sanrio land, we are left with only 1 day in Tokyo central. After that we are heading to Osaka.

If what he says is true, then I m really sad. Kind of feel disappointed.
It'll be very rush for a day trip to Hakone especially during winter whereby daylight is short. The ropeway that brings you to Owakudani stops at 4.15pm. So, I will not recommend a day trip.
