    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Violins

yup, I agree with luckystar that synwin has good range of violins. I bought mine from Cremuz. They will trade in their own violins when you upgrade as well.

Snowz, Donโ€™t know if you have found your violin but since you are looking for full size, I guess its better to go for something handmade and better sounding than the student range $100+ type.

    • RE: Instrumental school

Hi KS-me, my child had tried the Edvox's Funtime Doreme program. He enjoyed it tremendously and we received a free keyboard and free violin.. haha save up the money for other purchases

Roughly the course is a 1hour group class whereby they learn to play both the violin and keyboard. I was also looking for a school which exposes young children to various instruments as I was afraid if I start him on Piano or Violin immediately my child will give up easily or ask for another instrument to try halfway.

They also teach in the class other music foundations like singing, movement, music theory flashcards and games etc. My son enjoyed it. ๐Ÿ˜„

    • RE: Renting a house

I guess nationality aside, more important would be to rent to a \"professional\" tenant, such as someone gainfully employed in Singapore and is able to take care of your home for you. Many of my colleagues are foreign professionals, mostly single male/females professionals working in Singapore and some are families renting whole flat/apartment. So far I seen them taking care of the house and paying rent on time via I-banking. They are very busy with work and are seldom home as well since they are away from their homeland so they rather work and put in more hours there.

So remember to get all documentations like the Work or Employment Pass photocopies and lay down house rules such as the tenants bringing friends home or sub-letting on their own illegally. And I guess all landlords reserves the right to \"visit\" their place once in a while and see if everything is in order initially until you feel your tenant is trustworthy?

      Good Luck!! ๐Ÿ˜„

      koala_pig:
So koi, did your child got interested in music after attending the course?

edvox charges 240 per term (3 months) , is this consider expensive ?

Sorry, i have nv learn music b4..
      Hi Koala,

She has always been responsive and likes to sing and move to songs in cartoons, hence we decided to send her for more \"formal\" music education that is conducted by qualified teachers and in a fun environment to interact with other kids her age.

After the first lesson, she learnt to sing songs and was introduced to different sounds (pitch i think) and rhythm, various percussion instruments, songs and movements and games. I think it was because is seems fun during lessons that my girl enjoys it so much.

As for the cost, personally I found it pretty reasonable as it is for 3 months and it is 60min lessons each week. Of course we surveyed other schools and there are cheaper and more expensive schools but somehow the timing and curriculum of Funtime Doreme attracted us. Plus i got a free small keyboard and violin to bring home for my girl to practise. No regrets ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope my experience can help you.

Yup really hope your child can get in. But do monitor your child interest ๐Ÿ™‚

Other schools which is good is Yamaha, as they screen their teachers very strictly.

If your child can't get through the audition, come back to me. I will recommend you another school which they have one teacher who trains like in nafa. He was actually head hunted by nafa but he refuse to leave the school. Or you can get other well know professors who teaches nafa diploma students.
      Hi pianojazzy

Can you pm me the contact of that teacher as well. Thanks!

      hi koala_pig

I think for young children it is okay to expose them to music from 2.5 or 3 years old, just be selective to choose a course for their understanding level and their motor skills ability. I guess it is very hard to "motivate" children so young, as long as they enjoy going for lessons and are happy during class its the most important indicator!

My child used to take a course when she was 3.5yr called Funtime Doreme at edvox music sch. It introduces music appreciation to young kids and also they teach them the note reading, flash cards and those songs. The thing that attracted me to this course was after my friendโ€™s child attended, she enjoyed the lessons and always asks to go weekly. Also, a free keyboard and violin was given to my child when they learn the instruments.

    • RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

Yup, one of the reason I chose the current school is also due to their extraordinary events conducted for their students. Like every year there is a major concert in Victoria Concert Hall and they have their own Orchestra. The majority of the teachers there are degree holders. But actually qualification is one thing, being able to connect with and motivate our children is more important I guess!

Plus something I realised is going to a school/teacher who is doing Full Time. Many of my friends had bad experiences when the teacher they have been learning with for few months quit, then the whole cycle to find teacher and timing all over again.

    • RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

      Hi,

I agreed that a good teacher is always important - be it private or at a school.

My child has registered in this school in Marine Parade; was actually recommended by a friend who has a kid there. So far, it has been great! Teacher uses a lot of intiatives to motivate my daughter and she looks forward to going for her lessons every week. Started as a beginner; but was promoted to Grade 1 after 6 months. Am considering getting piano at home though we already have a keyboard.

      Ciao
