Both RGS and NYGH are top-notch schools. It really depends on your daughter’s strengths, interests, and where she feels most comfortable. Each offers unique opportunities, so consider her preferences.
Hi,
Attended both open house and she didn’t have a preference.Could you share what the are the unique oppotunities for each school? Thank you

Character development is impt as they progress into adulthood so Sch plays a large part. NYGH talks a lot about 勤慎端朴 and hci on 自强不息. Compare that to Raffles. The emphasis on character development is different. What kind of leader do you want your child to be the next time or what is more suitable for her to be next time.Thanks. I recall you preferred RGS, are you happy with the development of your DDs after going through NYGH/HCI?

Both of my children chose HCI and NYGH. In terms of Philosophical Inquiry, the sec 2 students are currently taking it, but it is a non-weighted subject. Also, take note that Language Arts at NYGH is a combined subject that integrates both Literature and English.
Hi, is philosophical inquiry only for Y2 students?

I’m leaning towards RGS but I would like my DD to make her own decision. Hence, trying to get more information . Since she is undecided, I believe my input would influence her decision.I’ve been trying to see which school culture would fit by DD better , but I thought what you mentioned “how you think you want her to grow up to be “ makes a lot of sense too.
Tbh, when we went to the RGS Open house, I was not very impressed by the student guide. Maybe it was too crowded, but we could hardly hear the student guide, and we lost track of her a few times during the tour . The CCA booths and performances were good though.

Hi, Hi, actually my DS is in RI (IP) so I guess I roughly know what Raffles is like . However I do think there’s some difference between girls and boys and was wondering about the culture in NYGH.
My DS didn’t really have a preference for either HCI or RI then, and he chose RI in the end due to the MEP programme and so far he seems to be coping quite well.
May I ask what is the difference between the personality of your children in HCI and RI? What prompted each of them to choose their respective college? Thank you! -

Hi not sure how valid it is now given my 3 girls are in HCI or uni now.
They were all from NYGH and graduated from SAP pri Sch as well. Their Chinese is not great (pri sch supplemented with tuition but A*/distinction at PSLE) and no tuition from sec onwards. Eventually distinction at O level HCL. If your concern is about their Chinese standard, I don’t think you need to worry. 70% or so obtain distinction at O HCL, the rest probably B3 which is good enough to be exempted from H1 Chinese in HCI.
Based on your description your gal seems to NYGH culturally however I do know of some parents who prefer to place their daughters into RGS to push them out of their comfort zone. No rights or wrongs both are great schools. Best is to bring your gal to both open houses and feel the atmosphere. My gals immediately said no to RGS after the OH as they find the environment too ‘rowdy’ while I preferred RGS.Thanks for replying! The posts at KSparents seem to move much slower now and I wasn’t sure I would get any replies.
I’m more worried my DD cannot keep up with the chinese standard at NYGH , will the school provide additional support for girls weaker in Chinese?
We’ve been to both open houses, and my DD doesn’t really have a preference. Personally , I prefer RGS due to the diversity and my feel is that the girls have more autonomy?
Do you mind if I message you in chat ?

RE: Compare RGS vs NYGH
Hello, have read through this thread and hoping for some input.
I believe both are good schools and I’m trying to help my DD find the right fit for her. She is from a SAP primary school . She does not dislike chinese but it is her worst subject despite putting more effort into it, as compared to maths and science that she copes with easier.
She is not the outspoken and extroverted sort, but does not have a problem presenting or speaking in front of crowds. I like that RGS does philosophy at lower sec and seems to empower the girls more. What about the girls in NYGH?
Would be grateful for any input !

What about NYGH? Any calls or emails?
Someone mentioned on Facebook parent support group that received CO for NYGH academic domain, not too sure about the details but I guess it was a phone call (non-conventional way to ask parents to make decision now whether to accept).
Which domain are you looking at?
I see ! Is it common for schools to call prior to issuing the CO? How effective is this ? I’m sure most parents would not make the decision immediately, if they still waiting for other schools’ reply . Am looking at academic domain.
