Hi maddyomom,

I am sorry to hear about this. I am sure you and your son must be quite upset about this. How is the situation now? Have you been able to speak to the teacher in question or the form teacher or the P or VP?

Hi,
Thanks for concern. Yesterday i received a phone call from the AM saying the VP has talked with the teacher. Today i received a phone call from the teacher too.
So if my son still wants to return to school we have to come to an end to this matter. There is actually nothing to do about it i guess.
But i come to realise that it's best to keep a really low-profile in school bcos if your kids gets into trouble/met with problems there is no way to get complaints throu... only lots of explainations/excuses etc...
Thanks for looking.
Hi Maddyomum
I'm new to this forum and I'm so sorry to read about your situation.
Hope the situation is better now that the teacher has called you up.

I know this teacher , was my child's teacher before for two years. She is outspoken, strict and definitely fierce. But I have also seen her fun side when she is with her students. And I also find that she is one of the dedicated and passionate teacher in NAPS.
My child did have a tough time in the beginning of P1 adjusting to her style of teaching. But after much communication with her, I find that she listens and makes an effort to help him adjust. With regular meet ups and talks with her everytime I fetch my child from school, my child settled in well and was given several opportunities by her to build his confidence. I would say she is one dedicated teacher that goes all the way out to understand her students, making phone calls to parents to update them about their childs' work and behaviour in school, and even to the extent of doing house call.

My point is this, communicate with this teacher (I believe she will call you too) . She is the kind that is opened to feedback and suggestions . A teacher has so many students to attend to in a class, hence it is important that we as parents feedback and work hand in hand with the teachers to help the child settle in. Now that she has called you, continue to communicate with her , I'm sure your kid will look forward to going back to school again.

I really do sincerely hope your boy gets over his fear.
My son has finally agreed to return to school on Monday... Having to constantly assuring him that he is not going to be in trouble as he's very \"allergic\" to the mention of the teacher. So i just hope she can just let him be & not try to go forward to \"consult\" him further thus causing him further stress. I think kids needs time to forget difficult times. Luckily my son really don't have any other lessons with her so a lesser chance to communicate is a good choice. Definately no more Remedial classes for him.
I will also not be opened to further conversations regarding this matter with the teacher or the school as i feel it is very HASSELOUS, time wasting & non productive. I strongly feel... IMO...seriously... it is very difficult to communicate with the school regarding anything at all.
Just try to spend 5.5 years & he'll be out of the school. I told my son from now on he has to live an almost transparent profile in school & stay out of trouble. Cos there is no way to get any situations/unhappiness dissolved in the school.

Hi cholecube

Next time you want yr son to ask the teacher to call u back, write a note and ask him to pass it to the teacher or on his handbook and ask him to give it to the teacher. So we know that he has passed the messages across. Sometimes, our child might have forgotten or scared to speak with the teacher. Also without details, how the teacher calls you? Can your son provides your phone nos off hand?
Usually, when the class starts, teacher will start teaching. So no time for the little one to go up and speak. Thereafter, he might forgotten all about it. That's my experience. So I usually write and ask my son to pass it to the teacher immediately when the teacher comes in the class.
I have tried to get my son to hand letters to teachers... but i have experienced before that after the teacher reads the letter she didn't give any reply & she also didn't keep the letter just ask my son to take the letter back. Tat's downright rude to me. So i won't bother to have anything to do with the school if i have the choice. But for my kid to survive 6 years... I really pity him.

Hi maddyomum

Phone the school and ask to speak to V.Principal. Leave your name, son's class and contact and I am sure he will call you back soon. Talk to him and arrange a meeting together to see Ms Tay and him. I think it is better.
After the meeting, ask the V.Principal if you can change your son to other class. I am sure they can work out something. The most your son can don't go for the remedial class. Also, there is special needs teacher in the school. Any problem, go to the teacher and I am sure they can help out.
Did you go to the school often?
No point transfer him to other school. There might have other problems too which we don't know. There's a saying, the other side of the grass is always green!
If the school still do not call, then go to the office personally. Oh by the way, when you call and leave a message, always ask who you are speaking with. So if the reply and when you go down personally, you can pinpoint out who took the message.
Relax and take care!
Thank you too pingathot,
I called the school on Tuesday morning. It was the Am whom i talked to last Friday. She didn't get back to me on Monday as promised. When i called her she just said the VP is very busy... so till now nothing has been done. So she promised to TRY to talk to him on Wednesday... I'm thinking for this matter they are not going to do anything. As for going to the school's office actually the staffs in the General office are mostly unhelpful & mononous. Only smiling & nice depending on their moods. If they are busy or something they won't even look at you no matter how long you stand at the counter.
Perhaps i my face looks \"Sway\" so usually i get such treatment from the school. But really \"Sway\" or not i think i still deserve a fair treatment for the sake of my son in school.
Thanks for listening....
Really... do i have to call MOE's Customer Service?

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. i have read the posts and they are really updating my knowledge of Ngee Ann Pri which my son is in class 1Unity this year. His form teacher is very good & nice.
But recently my son has problems with one of his teachers whom i think have an attitude problem esp. towards him. It very much saddens me, as my son is definately not the mischevious type. My son goes for English remidial classes on Fridays after school & the teacher is Ms Tay S.P who is also the form teacher of 1Love class. My son has chinese combine class with a few of the kids from Ms Tay's class. And one of them is always picking up on my son & disturbing him until the extend of kicking my son in his groin. So i went to talk with Ms Tay & asked her nicely if she would talk with that child. She seems unhappy when i told her that a kid from her class is hurting my kid. So during the English Remidial class my son raised his hand to answer a question she asked. I don't mind if she don't choose him to answer. Instead she said infront of the whole class to my boy : \" I DON'T LIKE TE**AY (my kid's name) SO I DON'T LET HIM ANSWER\".
My son felt hurt & depressed. I don't understand how could a teacher use such words to a kid who is the victim of the GROIN incident when the one who is wrong is the kid from her own class.
So called the school to book an appointment to meet the Principle but was rejected by the clerk. It is not the 1st time this Ms Tay has been saying nasty things to my boy & the other pupils. I feel that for a school with such a teacher the school is doing quite badly with their Teacher's dicipline.
Now i am waiting for the school to call me on Monday & see if this matter can be resolved. My son now has a phobia & refused to go to school he keeps saying that the teachers will catch him & threathen him. I feel so sorry for my son.
Some parents have told me perhaps i should just take this chance to transfer him out of Ngee Ann Pri. I starting to think that i should not have put him in this school in the first place.

hi maddyomum,
sorry to hear abt ur son's plight, i am sure he must be very frighten to see Ms Tay now.
i know which teacher you are talking about.
she used to teach my son during lower primary.
i have seen and spoken to her a few times. she is an out-spoken teacher, feedback to me abt my son's attitude and work on and off. she even call me when things are rather urgent. i actually prefer it this way than some of the teachers who couldnt be bothered at all.
i do not know why she speck to her students like that, if its the truth, then is very uncalled for. let me go back and check with my son, bcos sometime he tends to keep things from me after the teacher scolded him (maybe afraid i will scold him too)
have you tried to call and talk to her abt this incident? something are better to clarify with the teacher after hearing what the child had said.
meanwhile, u wait for the school to get back to you.
:hugs:

Dear chloecube,
Thank you so much for your kind reply. It is very heart-warming for me to know at least there is someone out there who care enuf to be a listening ear. Thank you once again.
The school did not get back to me today as promised. My son didn't go to school today. And seems like due to some stress he has gotten a cough... sign... I'll wait another day... maybe the school is really too busy to take care of my problem or they think it is just a small matter cannot be bothered.
As for Ms Tay she is only concerned about her own class, bcos she was social studies teacher for my son's class & infact she ever told my son's whole class during Social Studies that she dislike the UNITY class. I too wonder why she is like that.
I just hope things can be solved asap. I can't keep going on keeping worrying & depressed about my son in school.
I'll keep an update about this matter.
