From my observation, the languages either make or break the Tscore. 2A* in EL n MT with 2As in Sc n Maths can bring a child’s Tscore to 260s as opposed to 2A* in Sc n Maths n 2As in EL n MT, speaking from experience. So really jia you to 2nd lang paper tomorrow.

Whats done for Maths cant be undone and needless to agonise whose answers may be right as no parents other than the kids themselves have seen the questions. They may be browsing this website and be very affected by the "answers". Accordingly to a teacher friend, this Maths paper is indeed a very tricky paper not seemingly easy one.

All the very best to the next 2 important papers. Give them your very best cheers hugs n kisses n encouragement to fight this last leg of good fight.

Oh no, PSLE is just some 20 days away? Been there done that twice (last being last year) and do not wish to go through it ever again.

All the very best to all your DD/DS taking the 2014 PSLE.

For those who did not do well, do not ever be discouraged by the prelims. For those who did well, do not let your guard down. Prelim result is in no way a gauge to the actual PSLE performance. I have seen kids who never get beyond B for Maths, but practiced hard throughout the year, scored A* for Maths and vice-versa. This can be said for other subjects. So do not be discouraged but have confidence in your kids.

So long as the child has been consistently practicing the past years’ papers and not burnt out and is constantly being encouraged and not stressed out, it will be fine. Very important is the DDs’/DS’ mental preparedness and confidence level throughout the PSLE days. Have enough sleep the week leading to PSLE and try as you may, in the last week, not to do any more Maths practice papers with them but rather, going through what had been done. No point panicking in the last week or getting confused by doing more and making more mistakes and affecting their confidence level.

As for Science, reading up on guide books/revise concepts/key words in the last week is more important than doing more papers.

Ensure we keep check of any negative remarks we may pass at this moment or anxiety as they can sense it and be affected. I find long evening walks with them are useful to take away their anxieties and destress them/us at the same time.

They are very pitiful, really, mugging and mugging and mugging all day long. They need lots encouragement, support, pats every now and then, good sleep, good food, destress time and reminders to let them know we are with them in this and we acknowledge their hard work and effort put in and no matter what the result, we are proud of their whole year’s effort.

Refrain from discussing with them the day’s paper unless they open their mouth to talk about it themselves. You do not want to affect their mood for the next day. You can discuss and talk all about it at the forum but not in front of them.

Soldier on, it’s just a matter of days and all this will be over and parents and kids alike, can nuah for all you want.

      All the very best.

      happyheart:
By the way, asked Maths teacher if the SA1 paper is consider a tough paper in her opinion. Her diplomatic answer was that this paper covered more topics and more in depth...so no answer right? :slapshead:

Next question- are they close to actual PSLE questions, it is a legitimate question since there are 10 failures in the class. No direct answer but her reply was that school tends to test more in depth on syllabus done in the school, whereas PSLE is more for nationwide all levels students.
So who has the answer to her reply? Kee chiu
I have same question for the VP that day when I met her at an event as my DD left 3 questions blank. VP said that yes, the paper is a very tedious paper as they observed that there is a \"cycle\" to PSLE papers and Maths paper had been manageable past 2 years and there is no assurance this year will be the same. To play safe and to prepare them, they set the paper tougher and more rigourous.

I do not know if this is good or bad prediction as some kids can take the drop in marks, some cant. Bottomline is, as I told my DD whose marks took a first ever dip to a never before B grade that she must know where her mistakes are, not to repeat them, move on, take it as a first trial run to actual paper. Mistakes made n learnt are good mistakes made.

Dear All, the answer key to Catholic High Prelim Paper (Science) MCQs 2012 seems to have many mistakes. I got it from one Mr Gan.

Yes. You will feel how I feel and know how I feel if you are faced with profile of the kid who does not feel the heat yet and no amount of cajoling, hard, soft tactics will make her do more than she could/would do. It's really best if they are self-motivated as otherwise, it's very painful and tedious to try and get her to do just that little bit more.

Yes yes yes. I can understand. Sometimes, it's really :frustrated:

      Are you a SAHM?

[/quote]Weatherbee, I am not a SAHM. That is why it's very difficult at times that when I have the time, DD doesn't and when she has, I don't. At other times, when you feel like doing some form of revision with her, she is too tired or too busy clearing her schoolwork. It's so scary reading the threads and knowing that the kids are busy revising or doing the top school papers when I hardly can find the time/her right mood to do with her.

She returns home from school daily at about 4 - 430 pm after supplementary and HMT extra lessons. Like some of you mentioned, you can't even take her out from supp as they are going through those practice papers that they had done. By the time she rests and starts her work, it could well be 5+. At times, the teacher is just crazy to load them full practice papers for Science/Maths, on top of Maths/Science worksheets plus HMT stuff, after supp, to be cleared by the next day. Clearing these, no matter how fast she is (and mind you, she is very distracted) takes her easily up to 10 pm. Some days, on top of all these, there are MT oral sentences to memorise / EL good phrases to memorise, MT oral recordings, oh my, I just don't have the heart to load her any extra.

      It's crazy, their schedule.

Thanks \"bud\", yeah cancelling our date will not only hurt him, I reckon I will oso feel hurt and probably regret my decision after that and live in remorse/guilt again.

How else will you \"punish\" or encourage/motivate your DC if they dun keep up to expectations?
Please dont \"punish\" him if you see his efforts put in preparing for the CA. Honestly, it's really a rush into CA and kids are still not too bothered about it yet.

Try not to get too emo over CA and take it as a warm up exercise to PSLE. As for me I don't look too much into the grades scored but the difficulty level of the paper and the child's strength in and effort put into the subject. If you keep harping his poor grades in CA, he may feel very disappointed with himself especially if he had put in the effort. Getting good grades now and being complacent or over confident is worse. There are still 2 more \"ëxercises\" to go, SA1 and prelim, so not to worry too much about this CA. Hope you feeling better.

My son has not been revising or doing any assessment books or top school papers to prepare for his CA1 next week because he is preparing for piano exam.

I would have panicked if I don't keep telling myself what Janet has been sharing in this forum that the BIG picture is PSLE. Thank you, Janet!

While it is true that PSLE is the key exam, getting good grades for CAs and SAs is important for confidence building. Otherwise, the grades must be taken as a wake-up call. You don't just spend the last month studying for PSLE. You have to start NOW.

Remember also that performance in school exams can also be used in appeals to Secondary schools in case the child falls sick on exam days. So for all those taking PSLE this year, please take your CAs and SAs seriously.

Yes, getting good grades for CA/ SA / prelim is important but just as what Janet_lee 888 puts it that \"this 'wake up' call by schools to set tough papers doesn't always motivate kids\". I think it is very important to manage this wake up call if they don't do as well as it really can be served as a motivational factor or a de-motivational factor. I have seen kids who tried so hard and because of CA/SA/prelim results, parents' expectations and scoldings thereafter, lost confidence in the subject and on day of the big picture, they panicked and performed badly in PSLE. There are also those who did very well, became over confidence and did not do as well in PSLE.

As for my DD, knowing her character, if this CA sees her grades plunge, it will truly be a wake up call to her. Actually I have been stressing to her it's not the end result of the PSLE that I care so much but it is the whole process of her preparing for it. What is upsetting to me is her time management and lack of effort. If I see her efforts and hard work put into it, whatever her results, good or bad, is a call for celebration. That was my message to the elder one 2 years ago too and I remembered being so super calm on the day the results were released as I had seen how driven and hard the poor child had worked in preparation of her PSLE.
