just curious...how do u define an effective tuition programme? is it based on like increase of a certain number of grades within a given specific period of time?

and with so little time left before the PSLE, how do you gauge if your strategy is working well for you?

....love to hear from our parents. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes. You will feel how I feel and know how I feel if you are faced with profile of the kid who does not feel the heat yet and no amount of cajoling, hard, soft tactics will make her do more than she could/would do. It's really best if they are self-motivated as otherwise, it's very painful and tedious to try and get her to do just that little bit more.

Yes yes yes. I can understand. Sometimes, it's really :frustrated:

              Are you a SAHM?

[/quote]Weatherbee, I am not a SAHM. That is why it's very difficult at times that when I have the time, DD doesn't and when she has, I don't. At other times, when you feel like doing some form of revision with her, she is too tired or too busy clearing her schoolwork. It's so scary reading the threads and knowing that the kids are busy revising or doing the top school papers when I hardly can find the time/her right mood to do with her.

She returns home from school daily at about 4 - 430 pm after supplementary and HMT extra lessons. Like some of you mentioned, you can't even take her out from supp as they are going through those practice papers that they had done. By the time she rests and starts her work, it could well be 5+. At times, the teacher is just crazy to load them full practice papers for Science/Maths, on top of Maths/Science worksheets plus HMT stuff, after supp, to be cleared by the next day. Clearing these, no matter how fast she is (and mind you, she is very distracted) takes her easily up to 10 pm. Some days, on top of all these, there are MT oral sentences to memorise / EL good phrases to memorise, MT oral recordings, oh my, I just don't have the heart to load her any extra.

              It's crazy, their schedule.

:congrats: to BeContented and fanren DC

For Mama Mania, a word of reassurance. From what I know, this year is tough on our DCs. My beef is schools load them w too much work. Quantity not quality. Too little time going thru mistakes (if it ever gets marked???). Most parents of other P6 kids are now like me ๐Ÿฆ† resigned to seeing them do schoolwork even on Suns. Ironically, we are all now hands off cos our DCs (all in diff schools) are spending way too much time on homework. I have told my DD if at any time she cannot cope with schoolwork, let me know I will intervene BUT if I do that, the onus will be on ME to plan and strategize. DD is not confident my way will be better ๐Ÿ˜‚ Right now I am just supporting DD by being around whenever I can while she does homework, trying to nag at her less, ensuring she has enuf rest and food, trying to get her out of the house to exercise rather than watch TV, play computer when she has pockets of time; and I have told my frens with kids in P5 - DONT buy any assessment books, top school exam papers. The way it is going, they can inherit all of mine ... :stupid:

                  hi JohnYeo

This would be based on the objective of tuition in the first place relative to my DC needs. If I wanted to stretch DC then I would expect worksheets that show that make the diff. If I wanted someone to teach DC concepts, then the tutor's notes would reflect that. If I wanted specific improvement in marks, I would have made known to the tutor from the start. Right now I have no strategy beyond helping my DC cope with schoolwork and counterchecking quality of work... and worrying if this is enuf

Personally, I feel that results is a good indication if the programme is effective. Eg. for existing programme, I would look at their ability to sustain their results. For new programme, probably if there are improvement after 1 term eg. the techniques, etc.... dd was telling me that after her EL tuition, so far she is able to gain 4-5 marks more in her EL paper 1. So they are now working on her paper 2.... major overhaul... But yes, if she can improve by 5-10 marks that to me is a sign that it's working.... :xedfingers:

Omg... today is the first day for SA1.... compo and oral.... ๐Ÿ™ for decent SA1 scores.

I realised over the weekends that there are so many key timeline/ activities to watch out of this year.... How I wish we are already in october....

                        Hi mummyv,

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like there will always be worrying for our DC. I agree having a clear objective in the beginning is very important so that we know what we can look for (signs of improvements) along the way.

Jia You! 6 months more....and we KSP parents are all on the same boat! So hang on there!

                        John
