    • RE: Where can find group international chess course for 6+ boy?

International Chess has really picked up over the years with Singapore having produced our youngest Grandmaster recently. Most Chess grandmasters pick up the game at 4,5 years old and some at 6-8years of age. It does not kill interest if taught properly as a game to enjoy. It depends on where one is coming from. Very often passions start from a young age and as parents we try to nurture it. When everything falls in place, we have a champion but if not, we can always enjoy a good game of International Chess 🙂

    • RE: Travel: Australia - Perth

Actually for self drive holidays New Zealand and Perth also most parts of Australia are pretty easy to get about. Children love chocolate factories, strawberry farms and the beautiful beaches. I feel the plus point of Australia is really the short flight time we have to "endure" with kids whom cannot sit still … Lol - Overall it makes for a picturesque holiday and generally safe to get around

    • RE: All About Weiqi and Chess

      Hi,

My children play and learn chess. Chess school has weekly sessions where the children can play chess against other children for free. Timing can sometimes change if school examinations. In Chess with other sports, practice and purposeful play is important to progressing in the game. Playing online is also not same as playing over the board. Playing online does not allow child to learn how to record the game, press the clock, wrong illegal moves or how to move pieces and hold them properly when taking or promoting the pieces. I realised this when my own children told me it is so different an experience when they play against real people. Also the psychology and body language and putting up hands to call the arbiter! Lol ... Anyway chess school has free trial classes. I have texted you. Maybe you can let your girl pop by to play for free also to explore their lessons as it is reasonably priced with coaching from a GrandMaster. In Singapore when I was enquiring for lessons most are ad hoc free lancers who are without chess FIDE trainer certifications. Price are also hefty and cost an arm and a leg. For us, we kind of veered way from the mass market schools where it is not so much results driven. More towards value add 😛 if you wanna play a game with my 2 kids do pm me as well .. we are also in the West area 🙂

    • RE: Compare RGS vs NYGH

We have CO for RGS & NYGH. Will take NYGH because whilst both schools are brilliant academically we like the culture in NYGH more. It’s a personal thing but many friends fedback that two secondary schools does mould the child quite differently, not considering academic excellence. Different outlooks.
