After reading this morning’s papers, I read that Qiu Biqing started here from P3. So she’s a combination of China’s/SG’s/Qifa/her parents’ nuture. Well done, girl/Qifa!

Meditation
If you're feeling stressed up over your parents' health, your kids' education, or even your work/financial worries, why not give meditation a try.
I picked up meditation a couple of years ago while going thru' a very stressful period. It helped me cope with anxiety, to forgive and be grateful for what I have.
The recent months have been even more trying than ever, and the recent LKY interview prompted me to pick it up again. Checkout the article Balm for the Mind in Sunday's Lifestyle today.
A good resource for those who wants to give meditation a try is the free podcasts provided by the meditation society of Australia.

Download them and soon you'll be immersed in the messages they share..postitive messages like the meaning of life, offering and receiving love, humility, and letting go.
Hope meditation helps you as much as it's helped me.

MYB:
My personal opinion is to let your son have fun this school holiday esp if he's got an A* in his psle maths, there's no need to work ahead. He'll have a hectic year ahead. Thanks mathspark,
All the these days I have been asking my child to work on shing Lee. But wouldnt the topics be the same.
The school will give notes and worksheets; not sure if follow shinglee, coz I dont really keep tabs on wat sonshine did. -

RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
Congratulations, MYB! At 268, he’s as good as in. For year 1, they do the usual examinable subjects maths, sciences, history, geog, literature+english, HMT.
Others include oral communication, reseach education, computer studies, ART/Music, PE, philosophy.
Depending on yr child, he might go for selection for Euler (Maths) prog, Galileo (Science) prog, and/or 3rd language. I think there’re other optional prog to signup/select.
Didn’t you receive a booklet listing the subjects they’ll be doing? I think this was given out during Open house.
Btw, there’s no need to buy the Maths-Shinglee bk1 and 2, ds didnt refer to them and they’re still sitting in the cupboard all wrapped and smelling new. -

RE: Any parents here ever felt pressurized by others?
Feeling pressured? Definitely when dd was in primary school, each CNY gathering invariably will talk abt the kids progress, even in the office, after each midyear, finals, the qns will come fast and non-stop.
As dd moved on to sec, and me as an older (hopefully wiser) parent, we learnt to 看开了! As long as the kids and parents have done their best (even if the results aren’t much to shout about), you don’t need to explain or answer to anyone. Your conscience is crystal clear!
The comparison, of course, doesnt stop at grades. It went on to their heights, even weights, holidays, enrichment programs etc. Any chance to show off, you bet they’ll milk it for all its worth. After a while, you learn to treat it as 耳边风! Don’t let nasties affect your inner peace. Oh, and meditation and yoga helps too!
So hang in there, parents, if you’re feeling pressured by all the competitions. You’ll slowly but surely learn how not to be affected by others. -
