    • RE: Primary One School Orientation

      Strawberry Milk:
      Hi All,

I am helping a colleague to post this topic to check with parents whose children have attended the Primay One School Orientation.

My colleague's child has gone for the orientation last saturday. Both parent and child did not actually get much information form the orientation:-
      1) There is no mention what is the school reporting time on the 1st day of school? The school is a single session school
      2) What is the child expect to bring on the 1st day of school?
      3) Are parents allow to enter the school premise on the 1st day of school?
      4) Where is the assemble place?
      5) Certain school does not allow child to use \"trolley\" schoolbag; there is no mention of this too.

She was so frustrated with all these adminstrative issues and was at a loss what to do. I can only share my view on what my gal's school has given on the guidelines. Can any parents help?

Btw, my colleague's child school is in the Western part of Singapore (Jurong).
      1) My daughter will report school at 7am wor... so school bus will be more early liao... gosh!
      2) Students are given a list on 1st & 2nd day on what to bring to school... I think 3rd days onwards, will have a time-table bah.
      3) Parents are allowed to go on 1st & 2nd day from 7am to 8am & 915am to 1015am
      4) Assembly place, never mentioned also... mostly will be in the hall with bags as I've asked that bags are not allowed to be in class before the assembly
      5) Strictly recommended - NO Trolley bags...

Just that school din announced that can the books be kept in the school or not.. heard many school allows that... Have sent email to ask liao but no reply... maybe due to school holiday bah...

    • RE: CMA Math - Discussion

Hi, heard from my colleague that CMA fee has increase from $250 to $270 for 10 lessons already… She feel very tough cos of the fee & she would like her son to join in the CC abacus which using one hand method & of cos the fee is very much cheaper…

I paid $108 + $10 for the training material. My 6yo old daughter has been learning abacus for a year & she is now at advance stage where multiple has comes. She has no problem in addition, subtraction & multiple of 3 digits… division will be coming very soon & she has already know how to do the sums as well… I’m so proud of her & never regret to withdrawn her from CMA… (I can sit in with her in CC but not in CMA, so not sure how she progress in CMA previously). I withdrawn her becos of the fee & also the books not able to return to us after my daughter had finished)

Forgot to add : The duration is from 415pm to 6pm but teacher always prolong the duration to end at 630pm…
(different stage different date & time)

    • RE: What is being a KiasuParent?

Kiasu parents will be sending their kids to many of the enrichments classes as they cannot afford to lose to other kids. Or to courses that parents think is good for their kids. For example, golf or those that kids does not enjoy themselves. Electronics games as now serve as a trend, so parents thought their kids MUST know how to use & play even when they are only 3 years old…

Kiasu parents will not admit they are kiasu, they will claimed that aiya, it’s my kids’ requests lor… etc & etc. As I’ve seen & heard of too many parents doing such to their kids, I’m consider as relax mum liao…

Sorry if I offended anyone of you. Above quoted is based on my friends’ kids whom already started to complain that they are overloaded…

    • Before/After Student Care Centres

I’ve seek enquiry on one of the daycare centre around my around… The fee is $250. They prefer kids not to shower during the day as they have schedule like : -

      1) Eat breakfast (can don’t eat if kids already eaten at home)
      2) School homeworks
      3) English & Chinese spellings
      4) Their in-house homeworks
      5) Lunch (15 to 20mins)
      6) Go off to school…

I feel that the schedules are abit stress & tiring as kids has to stick to their schedules, they have to attend another half day school lessons… Seems like no rest day…

Are all before & after daycare centre the same?

Not sure whether to pay $300 for no guidance at all or go to this $250 with lotsa guidances…

If I go to $300, I still have to let my girl attend the evening tuition lesson.
If I go to $250, I din not let my girl attend the evening tuition lesson.
      Any suggestions / opinions, pls?

    • RE: Kids can be 'enriched' at home too

I would like to say "pls let the kids enjoy their childhood life"… "Don’t torture the kids just for the sake of your face"…"What’s so good to brag abt how clever your kids are? No one will envy but only pity them"…

    • RE: Weak bladder

My girl had this problem since she was a baby till now… I did not consult doctor but my mum did for me. She said, the doctor told her that drinking a cup of water must not be one gulp down, we should drink it in a slow pace. But still, my girl urines alot. I think she has a very weak bladdar…

I’m worry that if she visits the toilet too often when she goes Primary School, the teacher will punish her instead of letting her go urine…

I will try the Cranberry juice. Can this be bought from NTUC?
