My dd2 came home yesterday to tell me that the school showed a video of the teachers and Principal dancing the Gangnam style for their children day's concert ! Can't imagine Mr Ong involved in the dance
How I wish some one could upload the video to Youtube and we can all enjoy it ! -
RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
My DD1 just went to the boarding school experience for Sec 2 on 1 April. She called home and sounded extremely happy. Glad they had a chance to bond with their friends and be independent. This thursday evening she’ll be back for the long weekend.

This year, 1 GEP class - entirely GEPers, about 25 or 26 students. Actually I was quite surprised that so few GEPers chose NYGH.
Last yr, got 3 Gifted classes ie. GEPers + PSLE high scorers + those who were selected for Gifted programme but didn’t join GEP schools. Definitely last yr’s GEPers were more than 25.
Somehow this year the school decided not to mix GEPers with other mainstream students. -

Hi Effervescence
Glad to see an \"old\" NYGH girl around. :rahrah: This thread is rather quiet at times.
Just wanted to know if it's difficult adjusting to JC 1 in HCI after spending 4 yrs in an all girls sch ? Were the Sec 4 exams same as HCI ? Otherwise how to decide who can choose what subjects in JC ? Is CCA still compulsory in JC ?
Btw are you waiting for your A levels results ? If so, all the best - the results should be out in a few weeks' time ? -

My DD1 had gone for school trips in her pri sch and also joined her aunty for holidays abroad. So we’re ok with her staying in boarding sch. Anyway can come back on Sat.
Looking back at her Sec 1 days, she got a lot of homework and we’ve really "let go" - with no tuition, no monitoring. She had to do her own homework and manage her own schedule - only occassionally asked her daddy if she couldn’t solve her maths problems. It helped that her 3rd language is Malay - no need to travel to another school and it’s pretty simple - I think it’s only P1 Malay standard - haha ! She mentioned Chinese was difficult as it was a big jump from P6 - her Chinese teacher expected a lot and scolded them for lousy essays during the 1st term so they had to put in more effort. -

Hi P3 parents
Anybody knows how to sign up for the CCA ? I tried to access KHW website and then dunno where to go, is it LMS parent portal ? Alas, forgotten my password. -

Me too, DD1 in Sec 2 this yr. She’s looking forward to the boarding experience so she can spend more time with her classmates and best friends.

Hi Pinky
Yes u’re right. I’ve called the General Office yesterday and spoke to the teacher in charge of Brownies and confirmed that it’s on Monday. Will have to attend the CCA open house to check other CCAs, otherwise I think my DD2 will be joining Brownies like her sister. Her sister had a good time although the teacher in charge is rather fierce - not sure if it will be the same teacher next yr. -

My friend whose son is in another IP sch came over to my house to take a look at my DD1’s work and commented that NYGH teachers really teach and prepare their students with many worksheets and past year exam papers. She said her son’s school was really "teach less and learn more on your own" so she has to engage private tutors as tuition centres may not cater to his son’s IP sch syllabus and her son was getting 50 -60 range of marks in his term 1 and 2.
My DD1 enjoys her Sec 1 life at NYGH and her class is quite closely knit. They really play hard and study hard ! We’re glad that we’ve made the right choice. Her class is quite competitive too. The 1st in her class is 84.7, 2nd : 84.5 and 3rd : 84.0 Although in terms of average marks there’s one girl who got 86 but her MSG is > 1 due to her chinese is A2. Quite a pity.
Btw parents of Sec 1, any lobang to purchase iPad2 apart from the vendors that the sch had recommended during the iPad briefing ? Do you think there’ll be any discount at any IT fair ? TIA.
