    • RE: 2nd property

Was asking some friends about the Royal Wharf by Oxley. Many newspaper advertisements and looks quite popular.

Then one friend forwarded this link -

      http://londonproperty123.blogspot.sg/p/ ... wharf.html

This blogger says the location is not so good and very noisy. Analysis looks quite convincing.

But still got good potential right that places? Anybody got experience buying UK property?

Now it's so hard to get loan. The banks take a microscopic view on your financial status. They look into all your loans under your name, namely car, house, credit card, credit loan, etc. I think I m only eligible to buy overseas property.

Anyone invested in UK or Australia? Pls share on risks.
On London investment, somebody forwarded me a link to this blog

      http://londonproperty123.blogspot.sg/

According to the blog, this couple has invested in London for a few years already and sharing knowledge. Quite interesting. But, yah, not easy to invest in overseas prop when we are not even there.

    • RE: Dilemma - to work extremely hard or to relax?

Don’t be silly. Work on the Chinese, like right now.

You have to work with the end in mind - PSLE.

Who gives a sh*t about stamp competition and whatever else. Those won’t get you the 260 for PSLE.

And you know what? If you don’t drill the Chinese, coming from english speaking home, you won’t be able to score.

You want results, you need to invest the resources (i.e. time) in the right places.

      The other CCAs can wait.

      That’s my view.

    • RE: Is it easier to go University via the Polytechnic Route?

There had been many reported cases of poly grads going on to top unis overseas, but from what I recall, all of them are from the science / engineering / biomedical. I don't recall reading about anyone from the business courses going on to top undergraduate business schools, though the business courses (esp Ngee Ann) have some of the lowest COP.

Anyone know of those from the business courses making it to the top business schools straight after their diploma? I know of 2 poly grads who transferred to top private unis in the US (incl an Ivy League uni) after doing their general education at a community college. I hear that both uni didn't even require their poly transcripts, basing their admission decision mainly on their GPA at the community college.

      Hi,

While that is possble, I truly doubt an Ivy would admit such students unless they have been SUPER Spectacular in their community college (and I mean both academically as well as in their non acad activities). Ivies usually admit based on how wholistic an education an individual has received and of course, his or her performance.

Well, there are always exceptions. Maybe I should re-phrase. At least there are notable exceptions, including the recent SP grad who made it to Harvard. This was impossible 5 to 10 years ago.

That said, I think the general point that should be made in this thread is that it is still an exception for Poly grads to move on top Unis worldwide. Perhaps somebody can shed on the numbers each year, I really have no idea.

Anyway, I ask all these questions to educate myself. Last time, the Polys were obviously a lot less progressive compared to today.

I graduated from a top JC about a decade and a half ago. Virtually every student in my civics tutorial (CT) group had good enough grades to get into top overseas Unis. At least 5 went to Oxbridge. One of the President scholars my year came from my CT group.

      Rosemummy,

can you clarify by giving some examples of a top undergrad business school?

    • RE: JC1 STUDENT FARE BADLY DURING YEAR END EXAM-WHAT'S NEXT??

      EQUINOX:
My girl did badly in her JC 1 final exam. She has a good raw score of 9 in her 'O\" levels, went to a good JC and find that she couldn't cope - \"culture /learning shock\" I think! Did badly but not so bad that the school is prepared to push her up. She is so demotivated and demoralished by the marking system. She has worked so so hard but could barely pass 50% in all her 3 X H2 subjects. Now she is contemplating going to the Singapore Polytechnic to start afresh. But I think it is a waste because it is like picking an easy way out whereas she thinks she has no stamina to go & fight. What can I do to convince her otherwise? She still has Nov & Dec to brush up her work before school reopen for JC2 and she has spent so much time on project work as well. Sigh!

      How did her peers fare?

Which subject is she having difficulty with?

A levels you need to study smart.
