      JHFMum:
Is it true if you are offered 3rd language, you are within 10%?

According to my child's P, top 10% is 250 and above. Top 30% is 230 and above.
The principal may only be roughly correct. My DS got 249 and has all the 3rd languages (F, G, J) + Malay and Arabic, so according to the 3rd langugae logic, the top 10% can be 249 or lower.

But of course it should be around 245 -255 each year, so the principal is correct to guessestimate the figure of 250. I think MOE also never tell principals what the score is, so they also don't know.

    • RE: Possible for PSLE result to be wrong??

I think the score is ok, there shouldn’t be anything wrong. Furthermore the $50 review is for 1 subject only - if you don’t know which subject you suspect to have an error, you may have to pay $200 to have all 4 subjects reviewed.

Finally the review result will be out in about a month’s time, maybe after the posting results.

    • RE: Secondary Schools - West

Since you put choice no. 5 and 6, I think you don't have to worry at all. He should be able to enter one of the 6 schools, as it is unlikely that all the last 3 schools will all increase their COP by 8 marks 😄

    • RE: Secondary Schools - West

First choice school may be difficult to get in given the difference in score (4 points), but you may stand a chance in the 2nd choice school.

Did you put choice no. 5 and 6?

    • RE: COP for sec sch 2009

I think it will be up and down for some schools.

Popular schools may have a higher COP if more students apply.

But then there are some new schools like SST and SOTA. Will they pull enough good students so that the COP for all other schools drop? We will only know in 2010.

    • RE: Secondary School Third Languages

      DadofGirl,

The 3rd language choice and admission to school are 2 separate things. The admission to school is by T-score, does not matter whether you have chosen the 3rd language or not.

    • RE: Zhonghua Secondary School

You have 6 choices. You can put Cedar Girls as no. 1, Zhonghua as no. 2 and so on.

If your score is enough, you will get Cedar Girls, if not you may Zhonghua, and so on.

    • RE: Secondary School Third Languages

Yes, my boy got 249 and still have all the 3rd language choices, so 249 must still be in the top 10% according to your logic.

Anybody with lower score and still have the 3rd language choices?

    • RE: COP and mean score

Some parents may think differently - they may think that if the child mixes with higher ability students, it may push them to perform better.

My own opinion is to give a +/- 10 points to the T-score, ie. if the child scores say 200, his actual score is around 190 to 210.

I’ve seen some students with high T score slack off in secondary school, while other students with low T score start to shine and overtake other students from secondary school onwards.
