    • RE: 2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)

I'm in need of guidance of what secondary school to choose in The Central and west zone area for COP 223-228. Key considerations : well disciplined environment and dedicated Teachers. My Son was very disappointed with his result. As parents, both my husband and I are very hurt to see our son's dejection over his aggregate. We saw a change in attitude and maturity this year, so we would really want to help him choose a school that can give him a good start into secondary school. He is mild and that's why we needed a conducive environment for him.

      4) Planet A Star : ds attends the programme conducted in a condo in Bukit Timah only during school holidays. The teacher, Rosalind (spelling?), speaks English very well and has published a number of assessment books on this subject. She teaches all the students personally.

Ms Rosalind teaches creative writing based on her books. Do you think it helps with 5 days' lessons? Do you think the books are useful? The fee is the most expensive among the 4. When did your ds attend the programme? I am thinking to register my kid as well. Need some advice. TIA.

do you have her contacts and how much is it? thanks.

I would like to find out if there are any programmes which can help my gal improve her writing skills. She is not too bad, but i noticed it is usually her composition that has pulled her english grades down. She is in P4 and averages 85. Thanks.

    • RE: Creative O

      sumo22:
My son is starting with Creative O next week & I just attended the orientation. Met up with my son's teacher & I realised that she is a very strong advocate of thinking skills & a non-believer in academic learning.

I shared with her that my son tried to pronounce the word \"second\" & pronounce it as sec-cond. She said we should not correct the child as it will dampen the child's exploratory nature. Even when the child write a word with wrong sequence in letters, we should not be concern.

Can anyone comment if this is the right approach for a k1 child? I'm just not sure if not \"correcting\" the child will help the child to learn.

My friend's son is in Creative O K1 & he does not know how to write his name independently. They do not have worksheets totally & the children usually write on blank A4 paper so that they can express freely.

Can any parents comment if the approach might impact the child's learning & readiness for P1.

      Thanks!
Hi, I had contemplated a lot on whether to send my son to creative o. He was offered a place early this year to start in Jun, but after very careful deliberation my hubby and I thought it a better idea to let him stick to his kindy. As it is, my son is already slow in his writing, and his teachers have complained about his lack of attention in class. There have been some forms of homework which is very easy to complete. I see this as a form of preparatory exercise for P1. I am very feaful for this boy of mine, as he does not take on to reading and lacks in focus. So we felt that letting him get used to class room environment would be overall better for his primary 1 adjustment. Further, I was worried that if he were to hv a more free and easy environment, he may be even harder to coach. But to be honest, up till now, I am still thinking hard if it has been a good decision. Cos, he is still not a very cooperative kid in class and has given teachers quite a headache. I trust, after all, it depends on what kind of childhood and learning experience you wish your kid to have. I wanted him to be more disciplined, thus, decided to keep him in a kindy.

IMO, I feel that childcare has benefitted my gal a lot more. She is an only child at the moment so I like her to spend more time in school. Otherwise, will just keep on watching TV when she goes home[/quote]

      Hi Kaitlynangelica

Thanks for ur sharing. I had listed Faith as one of my choices too if I want my son to attend a cc. I had toyed with enroling my son in cc since last month, but had not decided cos he has two other siblings to play with at home. He is the middle child. I am careful not to aggravate the middlechild syndrome. He may feel unwanted if he is the only one going to cc and the others stay at home. Yet I feel that he has a lot of spare time wasted at home. Mostly just playing his toys, and at times, he gets to play DS and Wii. Tough decision…
