Would it make the whole P1 reg process less stressful if there's a rule to state that if someone reg at an earlier phase (e.g. P2B), once that phase has passed, he can't go back to de-register to apply to a later phase when opportunity arises.

Just throwing up some suggestions. Please don't wallop me hur (I'm not one of the four).

I think this is a suggestion worth taking note.

In my humble view, phase 2A1/2 are already in a privileged position.
\"Chope-ing\" a place in in 2A phase and still hoping to get a better deal at later phases will really put parents in phase 2C in a further disadvantageous situation.

Why are people in 2A in a privileged position ? Most parents have an alumni. Just that many do not like or do not want their kids to go to their alumni .
I agree most parents have an alumni.
But we do recognise some alumnus enjoy the \"privilege\" of registering their child in popular schools.
It's like everyone has a background but some are more privileged.
Just my humble views. 🦆

a lot of parents will object & protest, if you forbid them to withdraw.
because who are the people who withdraw / come out of Phase 1 (sibling) or Phase 2A, to register under 2B schools ?

will be many parents, that have connection to the schools :-
- Parent Volunteers tied to their respective primary schools,

- Grass Root leaders from the various HDB Residential Committee / Private Condominium Neighbourhood Committee, doing community service work for their GRC, at hospitals, etc.

- plus several volunteers offering their time in Hokkien Clan association, Teochew Clan association, Buddhist temples at Guang Ming Shan (Bright Hill road) + other related temple affliated to Buddhist schools, plus those members from Catholic churches / Methodist / Presbyterian / Anglican churches affliated to respective primary schools.
Would it not make these parents consider their choice more carefully before registering?
Still there is no foolproof system that will please all parents . But it can certainly be more equitable

14 of the 17 ready to be disappointed but at least they had a chance to ballot. Now it is 17 of them totally disappointed that they are not even given a chance.

Then what about the other 4 parents who enjoyed a walk through without having to ballot?
Some will win, some will be disappointed.
I am just trying to be balanced with my assessment on your views.

No fault of theirs if they choose to register at 4.25pm? They had a choice and of all choice and advantages they had, they had to make the worst possible negative impacting choice that is going to directly cause misery to many? The so called 4 that "benefitted" from their withdrawal might not even feel any impact cos they already expecting a ballot and that one withdrawal is just 0.01% assuming instead of 100 balloting, now it is 99; assuming each of them withdrew from different school. But their 1 last minute act caused a greater nightmare for many.

Just like retrenchment; 1 top-paying exec Kenna axed may not feel upset considering the redundancy package awaiting plus he/she already accumulated much wealth to be ok without a job for the next few months or even years but 1 low or middle income Kenna axed may be their rice bowl and already struggling with the daily survival. So same axe but who will your heart go out to? And will you still sympathize with the person holding the axe just because that person has the trump card and holds an advantage edge over the others? Just because you "hold the axe", you should have exercised due thoughts and not just axe for your own selfishness consideration.

I am not certain if using the retrenchment analogy is appropriate.
In any case, the sudden registration of these 4 parents don’t disappoint 17 parents as 14 of the 17 parents are ready to be disappointed.

Yes ,What they did actually disappointed 3 parents but benefited 4 parents!!!

Let’s also remember that these 4 parents who gave up their slots also benefitted 4 other parents who were vying from their withdrawals

phthp, that’s 28 SC <1Km excluding the 4 last minute ones. So total 32 out of the 31 vacancies. There are 17 >1Km who lost their chance just like that, after weeks of waiting for phase 2C. Poor thing.

Hi KYPS,
I understand your grief.
But it’s something many parents would do to enjoy better odds at balloting.

The rules of the games are clear for all, so we can’t say its unfair to the 17 applicants, although my sympathies are with them

Congrats to all parents who have secured a place today.

All the best to parents who need to go for balloting.

Just sharing my experience.
I did 1.5 years of PV to qualify for Phase 2B so we stand another shot frba school that’s next to put home.
It wasn’t easy having to perform the duties religiously for twice a week over 1.5 years.
When the time came for school registration, instead of feeling the stress I actually felt sense of relief.
It dawned upon me that I have truly done all I possibly could to put ourselves into Phase 2B registration. There was not much more we could have done and it’s not in our hands now…
The feeling of doing my best was great, regardless of obtaining a slot in that school.
