2014 P1 Registration Exercise for 2015 In-Take

Let’s also remember that these 4 parents who gave up their slots also benefitted 4 other parents who were vying from their withdrawals

This really up the heat by many notches. Majiam insider news la
Exactly! Noone can predict what the next person will do...just look at the KSP live commentaries and people dispensing all sorts of advices!

And remember the fact that those 17 were going for only 3 seats. Many of them are prepared to enter Phase 2C Supplementary. ATS btw has always been balloting within 1km in previous years. This year’s low number for 1km is an anomaly actually.

What is there to address? :scratchhead:floppy:

Something is wrong !
This issue need to be addressed, raised up to MOE.
The 17 affected parents in Ai Tong ought to write in, explain yr plight.
So whAt time did these 4 extra actually turn up, throwing everything off course, without any time to respond to crisis ?
The rule says closing time 4.30pm, means closing time is 4.30pm. If they step in before 4.30pm, the school will accept them as per normal. As much I empathise the plight of the affected parents, it's a risk they (and everyone else) need to accept when applying for a school > 1km.
You have been encouraging people to wait and see, and apply for a more popular school if there's no balloting or the chances are greater than the one they are enrolled in. Maybe the 4 parents heed your advice?

No fault of theirs if they choose to register at 4.25pm? They had a choice and of all choice and advantages they had, they had to make the worst possible negative impacting choice that is going to directly cause misery to many? The so called 4 that "benefitted" from their withdrawal might not even feel any impact cos they already expecting a ballot and that one withdrawal is just 0.01% assuming instead of 100 balloting, now it is 99; assuming each of them withdrew from different school. But their 1 last minute act caused a greater nightmare for many.
Just like retrenchment; 1 top-paying exec Kenna axed may not feel upset considering the redundancy package awaiting plus he/she already accumulated much wealth to be ok without a job for the next few months or even years but 1 low or middle income Kenna axed may be their rice bowl and already struggling with the daily survival. So same axe but who will your heart go out to? And will you still sympathize with the person holding the axe just because that person has the trump card and holds an advantage edge over the others? Just because you "hold the axe", you should have exercised due thoughts and not just axe for your own selfishness consideration. -

Lol those 28 should wear Red on 6 Aug (as they must be boiling with rage with the ballot news at last stroke of the clock) then unite and chant for good luck snagging all spots and let the remaining 4 have a taste of the cold sweat fighting it out.
Anyone from that 28 here reading and onz wearing red that day? Red=good luck too and if they get in, can go celebrate national day as well. -
I think retrenchment is not an accurate analogy of p1 registration.
I do feel that it’s their choice whether they want to be nice or not. It’s just like a forummer sharing that he got insider news that this year would see changes in the policy only after he benefitted from it and no one else could. He knew the news 2 years ago and upgraded himself one phase earlier.
Could he have shared the news these two years? Of course he could if he had been nice. But he didn’t until things were too late for those in the unknown to do anything.
Do I blame him for it? No. The ball was in his court. He could choose to keep the news to himself or share it with others so that others could benefit from it.
Likewise for those parents. They could choose to be nice and register early like most did or play the ‘every man for himself’ game. You do have to admit that in P1 registration, some do have such a mentality and you can’t blame them for it.
Those parents were only doing what they deemed fit for their kids, like how you and I would if we had the advantage. -
For those earlier phases, they are in better "privileged" positions cos overall their chances of getting into their 1st choice are higher. (But of cos different for those super popular schools)
The parents of the earlier phases should evaluate & make their decision. Not to safe guard a place in the earlier phases then decide to withdraw & join the phase 2C.
Phase 2C is the real battle for parents who hv no relations to whichever school. Parents are already stressed over the fewer vacancies left. -
Rains, do you think those 28+17 will not blame those 4 for causing this predicament? Easy for us to say let it go when we are not in their shoes.
Agree it is a good idea on cooling measure so anyone who don’t even stand a balloting chance can have time to react and not have waited in vain for 2C and having to wait and go through all the stress all over in 2CS.
