Some tutors said recently it is wrong to use AL system to grade Primary 3 and 4 results and AL system can only be used for Pri 5 and 6. But why?

      Anyone can explain please?

Min said the introduction of AL is to stop comparison and focus on yourself not to chase the last point haha…..parents need mindset change haha….
i think if S1 posting exercise is \"Live\" update, maybe parents wouldnt chase the last point that hard and move on to another school if their selection falls out of the choice.

      Let's take AL9.

      It would be 89*3 + 84 = 351

OR it can also be 85*3+80 = 335

Some online articles allude to a factor of approximately 0.73.

That gives us tscore of 245 to 256.

      Now let's take AL8.

It could be 89*4 or 85*4 which is 340 to 356. The tscore would thus be between 248 to 260.

Thius there is considerable overlap in total marks which we cannot demarcate clearly.

Hence, MOELC would have taken AL8 as cutoff. Because the lower end of AL8 is already 248.

If I use this logic on my DD, she would have probably scored (97+93+83+80)*0.73 = 258, but she got AL8 and may or may not get IP. That is a new reality we must accept.
On top of this, i think MOELC could now take the median of 248 to 260 as their COP.

      Dear Parents!
I am hoping for your advice. My daughter has a score of 6D and her dream school is RGS. However, we had advised her (after reading the posts here) that she would be subjected to balloting for a spot.

Her current choices for submission of schools:

      1) RGS
      2) NYG
      3) NJC
      4) SCGC IP
      5) Cedar IP
      6) RVH

2nd,3rd and 4th was based on proximity. As a parent, I felt that she should place NYG as her first choice and had explained to her the practicality of attending a school closest to home. She understood but decided to still give RGS a shot.

Hence, I'd like to seek some advice from Parents on the odds of getting into NYG with her score because from reading the discussions from 2019 onwards, it seemed that her chances of getting into RGS is extremely low with a 6. Most importantly, I felt that I should try to gather as much information as possible in guiding her in choosing a school.

      Thank you!!!!

p.s. she had attended open houses for school 1 to 4 and.
im actually curious for AL4-AL6 schools, what is the minimum grade one should consider, to even put that school as an option? Say, AL6p, as the minimum?

Hi..my daughter got AL 9, and she hopes to apply for Cedar. She is good in her presentation skills - both English and Chinese (her mom is Chinese but she is Singaporean). She is quite well-rounded. Do you think I should contact Cedar's Principal to highlight my daughter's talent in the hope that he considers her application favorably? Her second choice is Crescent. Thanks, Tony.
What's the COP for Cedar? If 1 point fall short, maybe can try?

Likely too early since need to wait for posting results.
But count me in as well if there is. 😄

On the contrary, anyone has 2024 IP1 booklist?

If kid is indifferent, doesnt matter which school as long as the standard is acceptable, then why must choose NJC if TJC is more feasible. One do not need to choose based on COP, if you have attended enough P talk you would have heard to same advice. AL6 can still go TJC. TJC's score range for sec 1 posting in 2023 was AL5 - AL9, there are even AL5 students choosing TJC, he could have gone to RI or RGS so TJC must be his first choice.

Could be a non citizen, so no ESIS. Still... if TJC is nearer to our home, the school (not stream) likely will be in our consideration too; whether the school and culture are suitable, not because it is IP. I believe, mid IP and top O are not much different in terms of workload and expectations (my personal view only)
V few non sap schools and non IS schools around.
      Tjc gives 1k if AL6<
