    • RE: Travel: China - Hong Kong

      Hi

Looking for some advice on transport, many thanks in advance.
We are travelling to HongKong/Macau this month.
Is it easier/cheaper to travel to hotel in kowloon on taxi than taking airport express?
I was checking the price, airport express would cost abt $55+ (2A+2C) and still need transfer from station to hotel.
If taxi can bring us direct to the hotel, maybe even another $10 more is ok.
One plus with airport express is speed, taxi subject to traffic?

I know this thread is a bit outdated but, if you guys are still reading it, I would suggest Nan hua High if your child got around 240+. If your child only got 190-230, I would suggest Tanglin Sec. I know it is just recently merged but it is now a much better school than before. Since the DM changed the discipline was better.

How about 240? too low to go nanhua, between swiss cottage and commonwealth, which is better? or should I enroll my child in CTSS?

      Thanks a lot!
I am thinking Swiss need to take train n bus, else long walk.
Commonwealth oso need take train n bus
      Clementi town direct train
I stay at boonlay, is clementi town better than fuhua? I also dunno what is \"better\" shd I look at academic results or ?? even open house only allows a glimpse..

Not sure if you are aware that there is a straight bus (no. 30) that goes from Boon Lay station to Commonwealth Sec Sch. Based on your selection I would recommend Commonwealth not just because the COP is the best match to your child's results, I've also heard good things about the school such as their innovation in creating their own eco garden at their school. Plus it's an autonomous school, i.e. greater autonomy in making their own decisions.

I don't know much yet about Fuhua but they're having an open house tomorrow (8.30am-2pm) if you are interested.

Clementi Town also seems to be a decent school (I went for their open house), they won a couple of awards before for distinction and innovation. And it's just a few minutes walk away from the MRT station.

Parents can help in filtering the selections based on COP, distance/commute, curriculum etc but I think ultimately it's a good idea for the kids to visit the open house to experience the \"look and feel\" to assess how comfortable they are in the school and mingling with the students there. That's how my DD finalized her first choice school prior to PSLE.. šŸ˜„

Ya. Will be visiting Fuhua tmr. Taking Bus 30 is quite long journey? But MRT from BL to JE-> Bus 78, also about same.
My child no views, ok with all choices. But did comment prefer nearer to home. šŸ˜“

Hmm..from boon lay, of course, Fuhua is nearer but has to take a walk from the mrt along the canal. Clementi town couple of stops away also with a short walk..so not much of a different. You may want to check whether there is any direct bus from your place to Fuhua..so for distance-wise, Fuhua has a slight edge.
The cop of both schools and the O lvl results also roughly the same for both schools.
Why not check up the CCAs, whether there are CCAs that you prefer over or the other?

For Swiss, there is this bus 187 direct from Boon Lay bus interchange to Swiss..

      Hope this helps! šŸ˜„[/quote]

Thanks! I will be going to Fuhua open house tmr. Swiss cop is 241, Fuhua is 235. If I go Swiss, will I be band into the last class?

tscore of 240, which school to go in the west? TIA

      Hi!
Try Swiss Cottage or Fairfield (Not sure of your distance)
      Commonwealth
Kranji (think twice.. School undergoing major renovations next year. Will be at holding school in Teck Whye.)
      Clementi Town
      Fuhua

      Hope this helps.. šŸ˜„

Please share the culture of this school, teachers (how far they can go in helping the girls) and most of all homework - is there alot that the gals cannot cope. Thank you.

My DD studied at CGS as one of the last entrant at Cut off T-score and took O-level in 2013. Never regretted that decision as those 4 years prepared her for life. After 2 years in CJC , she got in NUS.

Big thank you to all Teachers who nurtured strengths and worked on weakness to grow confident adult

Did your girl meet the COP for the previous years? She took her Os in 2013, means she is the 2010 batch, her tscore was higher than 2009 cop?

If I risk the 1st, 2nd choices for school with cop higher than my child's tscore. Then I put a school with cop below my child's tscor as 3rd choice. If she cant get in 1st n 2nd choice, will it be possible that she don't get in the 3rd choice too?

We been to the open house for 1 neighbourhood sch, the P says dun apply if your tscore is below the cop. šŸ˜ž

You can try the first two choices.. as Long as the COP for 2016 is the same as last year for the third school.. your child will enrolled in successfully one šŸ˜„

      thank you fredia_phionna šŸ™‚
