Augmum:PW teacher told them, I think to encourage those who did not get As. Results this year definitely worse than last year. Not sure how many Cs though. Would be good to know other schools' stats.Red rose, did the sch offically announce the PW stats ?red rose:Anyone has any stats to share from their JCs?
RI saw a significant drop in distinctions this year, only 72.5% compared to almost 90% last year. Last year was 100% As and Bs, this year even had Cs!!
Is this a national trend or only in RI? Thanks.
According to my gal, their PW Ts said that they could not reveal... :scratchhead:
This yr, their results certainly fared better than last yr..
No heard of any C...100% As and Bs, same as last few yrs...

RE: UCAS Tariff Calculation
Hi, just wondering if any parent or student can enlighten me regarding how UCAS tariffs scores are computed for Singapore students, since the GCE A Level exams here are different from those taken by the UK counterparts, plus UK grades include A* (140 points) whilst local students can only achieve an A (120 points) at most. I understand that all H2 and H1 grades are supposed to be computed in the tariff, but can any one confirm specifically that GP, PW and MT, which are officially recognized as H1 grades in Singapore, are also included in the scoring, since this makes a very significant difference in terms of the final score. For e.g. for a student taking 4 H2s and 3H1s with straight As, the tariff score will be 660, but if the 3H1s are excluded, the score goes down to only 480.
Are tariff scores automatically calculated with the information in the UCAS application forms for all students, regardless of whether the UK Uni considers it as part of their selection criteria or not?
Does anyone know which UK medical schools (5yr course) use UCAS tariff scores as part of their selection criteria? From what I know, only Bart's explicitly states so in their website. Most of the rest of the medical schools consider only A level grades, UKCAT, PS and interviews, with no mention of tariffs at all. But yet, there is a list showing cut-off tariffs for all medical schools in UK, which confuses me.
Would really appreciate help from any one with experience in this area. Thanks in advance.

RE: Networking Group - JCs General
I noticed that many of my DD's schoolmates are CIP crazy, running from place to place collecting as many CIP hours as possible, something she doesn't quite believe in. I've also heard of some with a few hundred hours in JC alone! Just curious, how important are CIP hours for Uni and scholarship applications? Will exact CIP hours still be recorded in JC CCA records, although there's no more LEAP points in JC? Thanks!

RE: Networking Group - JCs General
Just wondering, does any one know if the actual number of CIP hours accumulated in J1 & 2 are recorded in JC CCA records or will it only be a qualitative report e.g. X tutored less privileged children from the ABC Children's Home from 2013-2014? Thanks in advance.:)

RE: Networking Group - JCs General
Hi! I heard that some JCs get the students to write their own testimonials for their form teachers to use as a reference when writing their school leaving testimonial? Is this true? Does RI and HC have this practice? Thanks in advance for sharing.

RE: Secondary School Chinese
Although I know that the standards differ every year, can anyone, especially a Chinese teacher, enlighten me as to roughly what overall % is required for an A1 and A2 at O level for Higher Chinese? Is it the same as for school assessments whereby 70-74=A2 and 75/>=A1?
Is it true that about 33% get As every year for HCL? Does this mean that MOE more or less 'fixes' the proportion of As at this approximate % and a student who falls in the top one-third will get an A, regardless of raw score? Wondering because this year's O level HCL Paper 1 was tough.
Thank you in advance.

RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
Hi! Heard that Raffles Diploma results are out. Anyone with J2 children with stats to share? What % were awarded distinction and merit respectively?
Another question - any idea how many are awarded the MOE Pre-U scholarship each year?
Thanks in advance.
