      Just had a conversation with a friend of mine whose daughter took her A levels last year. She was from CJC. She did pretty well, scoring As for all her subjects except one B.

      My friend remarked that during her time in JC, she was at best just passing all her tests and said that the JC grades are not a good indicator of the actual A level results, her daughter being an example of it. He doesn't understand why the JCs make their tests \"unreasonably\" difficult on the kids and said not to rely too much on JC results as an indicator of actual A level grades.

      My son's feedback on the performance of his cohort in the recent mid-year exams is also consistent with my friend's experience in that even the scholars are merely scoring Bs and Cs at best, with some others even failing their various papers.

      Hence, parent's must prop our child's confidence and motivate them during their time in JC and not let these dismal grades discourage or unnecessarily stress them out.[/quote]

        There's a joke going among DD's friends.

        In primary school, parents ask \"Did you get 100 marks? Did you get above 90?\"
        In secondary school, parents ask \"Did you get A1?\"
        In JC, parents ask \"Did you pass?\" :rotflmao:

          I’m not overly concerned about the grade per se. I’m more interested in the percentile. If the median is an E, then a C grade is very acceptable. Similarly, If the median is a B, then a C is not good.

            I think we should focus on A levels n not be too unduly disturbed by school grades.


            I believe there is still time to improve on school grades n it will be good motivation to try to improve at each test/exam.

              Hi! I heard that some JCs get the students to write their own testimonials for their form teachers to use as a reference when writing their school leaving testimonial? Is this true? Does RI and HC have this practice? Thanks in advance for sharing.

                    This happens in secondary schools too!

                    It does make sense for the student to list the things he wants the teacher to highlight, especially as teachers may not remember every detail of every student's school career. Of course, the teacher is not bound to follow the 'guide'.

                        In my dd's secondary school, the school had a complete list of the student's achievements and no further input was required by the student.

                        That's the more major and \"official\" achievements, but there may be other contributions and participation in less measurable/recordable ways? I'm still not familiar with how the school (same one) records things, but from what I saw for the last semester, some of it is a bit vague. My daughter seems to be involved in so many disparate things at the moment, not all them related to her official CCA, I'm not sure they are all going to be listed, or listed with enough detail. She's already decided to keep her own list for her own records.
