RE: 2013 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Omg! Ds1 is running a high fever. Not sure if he can take the paper tomorrow. Anyone can advise me what happen if he misses the paper? Just call moe, as usual no proper advice just say call the sch. When I call sch, sch also cannot advise on how results going to be computed, say depend on moe. Any parent who experienced this before can advise?

RE: Q&A - PSLE Math
Thanks Ice watch. It seems that it is still easier to use the algebra way of solving.

RE: Q&A - PSLE Math
Can anyone help on the question below?
Mdm Shanti bought 1/3 as many chocolates as sweets. She gave each of her neighbour’s children 4 chocolates and 3 sweets, after which she had 6 chocolates and 180 sweets left.
(a) How many children received the chocolates and sweets?
(b) How many sweets did she buy?
Thanks. -
RE: 2013 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
This PSLE journey has indeed been a long and tiring one, not only for kids but for parents too. It is not only a test of the knowledge of the kids, it is also a test of their stamina, their stress management and time management skills. Hopefully, this learning experience will help the kids cope better with the even more challenging and demanding secondary school life.
For this year, DS has been very tired with the long hours spent in school for the supplementary classes, followed by the never ending homework. Being his primary source of support, I not only have to help him out with his forever challenging maths and science questions, I have also to be his counsellor and cheerleader. I have to counsel him whenever he faces problems and frustrations in dealing with his teachers and friends. I have to cheer him on whenever he falls and feels like giving up hope. I have also to ensure that he is physically and mentally strong enough to tackle the challenges ahead. Seems that it is never easy being a parent nowadays.
Nevertheless, I am glad I am walking this journey with him, sharing his feelings and understanding his thoughts. The bond has grown stronger and I am able to step into his shoes and think why he displays certain behaviour. I am not sure if he can make it to the school of his choice, since he has never met that cut-off point since P5. But it is indeed encouraging to see him putting in the effort and even sacrificing some of his playtime. All I can say is really “GOOD LUCK”. At the end of the day, all I care is really to have a healthy and happy boy!
I SALUTE all the parents here who give your best support to your kids in every way. Let’s countdown to 1 Oct and celebrate! All the best to all P6 pupils! -
RE: Q&A - PSLE Math
Anyone can help?
There were a total of 20800 toys in Factory A and Factory B. After 3/4 of toys in Factory A and 3/5 in Factory B were sold, there were 1040 more toys in B than A. How many toys were there in each factory at first? -

RE: Q&A - PSLE Math
Thanks PapayaDad for directing me to Tianzhu’s blog. Tianzhu’s blog has been really helpful.
A big thank you to Tianzhu for your time in looking up the slides.
How nice if all these different methods of solving problem sums are included in the textbooks and properly taught by school teachers, then we parents can save the time in sourcing for solutions and teaching kids ourselves! -
RE: Q&A - PSLE Math
Hi Tianzhu
Yesterday, my son came back with a few challenging questions involving the units and parts method. It took me an hour to help solve all of them. These questions could have been solved within minutes using algebra. Unfortunately, kids are not taught using 2 variables. Hence, I have to go figure out what this "units and parts method" is all about. No wonder parents and kids get so stressed up nowadays.
This thread has more than 800 pages. I wonder if you have by chance helped solve the "Double IFs’ type of questions? Is yes, appreciate if you could direct me to those pages.
Million thanks.
