      MSHS is a SAP school.

Yes, only HCL is available for P1. It does not offer other languages.

    • RE: NO tuition success stories to share?

      kaitlynangelica:
There is no need to compare who goes for tuition or who doesn't.

As parents, we know what our kids need best.

If the child is weak and struggling, and the parent cannot teach and yet managed to find a good tutor who can help the child grasp well, what is wrong with sending for tuition?

Our school syllabus is such that the teaching is touch and go....and yet the depth of understanding required is deep. So if a tutor / mentor can help coach the kid and bring her / him to the maximum potential, then why not?

There is no need to compare who sends or who doesn't send for tuition.

Those who have had success in coaching their kids and didn't have to send for tuition do not need to make those who send for tuition feel guilty. Likewise those who have had to send their kids for tuition do not need to envy those who did not have to.

      Every child functions differently.
I disagree. Our schools are sufficient to teach. A common problem is that many just play during lessons and rely on tuition because they have to go anyways. Also, if the child is weak, the child should be approaching the teacher and not the tutor, there was this friend of mine whose tutor even taught something not accepted in Exam!(If you are wondering, she probably went to a 'good' tuition centre since her family focuses a lot on her enrichment what not.) Studies also show that tuition has no link to the school grades, at least of those 'surveyed'.

I've seen an article before on this girl who never did extra revision and doesn't have tuition, but she makes sure she gets it while in school and ended up doing really well for her studies. Isn't this the right way? No? I'd like to put forward that there isn't a need for any other academic program other than School to do well.

I personally did similar(except I'd make sure I'd get it through doing homework and corrections cause I tend to fall asleep in class  ).

My Primary School Top Scorer didn't have tuition either(she's in my class and our whole class is super close so I would know such things), but I'm not really too sure what she did.

There are stories everywhere to be fair 🙂

    • RE: Zhonghua Secondary School

      natsu321:
It is a good school, but not one of the better schools available in Singapore.

I witnessed how the school dealt with Amos Yee at the beginning of his teenage years (NB: His vid on CNY) and it was poor handling to say the least. I've been wanting to say this for a long time. Let's just say that teachers weren't the only ones punishing him, he was bullied really badly online and offline by NA/NT students (threats, vulgarities, insults). His actions were immature, rude and arrogant, but as respected authorities, the teachers should not have punished the bullies less harshly. After undergoing the shame of being bullied, he had to do a public apology to the entire school, possibly under the threat of teachers, I don't imagine he'd willingly do it. Here is what I think: The bullies should have been more heavily dealt with. The things they said were 10000 more offensive than \"CNY is a copycat of America's new year\", the bullies did not do a public apology. It is uncivilized to think it is okay for bullying to go on just because someone toed the line, controlled punishment yes but just NO to bullying. I think the unfair treatment led to a lot of pent-up indignance towards authorities, which eventually reached consummation in his current form. I don't think he was properly listened to/received good counselling when he was a young teenager, when his mind was still malleable (can't ignore the fault of parents in this case).

Well. He went into ZHSS as someone who dispenses his opinion arrogantly on topics that are legal, and he went out as someone who is vulgar, rude, and a criminal. Who can influence a young teenager? Parents and teachers. ZHSS had a role to play that we can't ignore. I seriously think the CNY video was the crux of his life 😄 😄 but that's just my opinion!
Hi, I think this is a bit too serious to be speculating  ... And well, how do you know what those bullies said?(Sry, I didn't fully follow on that story because Amos Yee wanted attention, I'm not giving it to him.) Also, I think racism is much more serious then whatever those bullied said, what they said may have affected him badly, but it probably won't cause a war? So ya... Anyways, instead of influence, they may have just not stopped him and he thought it was fine and went from bad to worst? I'm not speculating, I'm pointing out some of the many possibilities that could have happened instead, without siding with any, I'm saying it's possible, I'm not saying it probably is.

    • RE: Travel: China - Beijing

There’s so much to buy and see in Beijing, I regret bringing so little money that last time when I went with my school, the things were so interesting and they were so cheap, yet they were of better quality then in SG, ironic to you people right? I don’t even get why China is being criticised so badly for something that doesn’t even happen.

Thanks ..tomo i m seeing d teachers.. will ask about d drastic drop ..

Don't just look at your child's results, also look at his cohort's performance. Is his marks above median?
Is the paper set at a higher standard?

Well I'm just saying, no hard feelings 🙂 but 1. Look at the highest too, there's a chance only a few did well, and the others did poorly, I believe this was the case for last year's PSLE. Although many did badly so \"It is fine\", you may need to think about why there are people who can do well - Maybe the topic was confusing so many(including your child) did not understand? You know, those kinds of things. Btw, it is very common to drop, and chances are, it is not gonna go back to when they were in P4(unlike what others have said). Just look at the grade itself, if it is the same, then you PROBABLY do not need to worry as much.

I think that if you need help from ANYONE, at least give an example, peer marking is really common, and I find it effective. Please I’m actually interested in this, idk, seems interesting.

Thanks parents for reply but think moe lost power already. Another incident ( not me, classmate in same class)with another HOD was supposedly investigated. Moe officer called school n so on but HOD seemed undisturbed. In the end, no outcome. What is happening? Other than moe, any other ideas?

I am afraid later my child kena marked. So headache.

You should prepare a comprehensive writeup of the situation prepare video evidences/pictures (of homework etc..)..

for example, some teacher are very lazy and bochap until they write the answer on the board and ask students to mark each other's papers (wtf?). How is student going to learn like this? You can consolidate all the (student)marked assessments as evidence etc.. And any other evidence that shows the teacher's laziness/bochapness.

Then, you can post in stomp (or KSP?).

Social media is your best bet if you don't trust MOE.

Now, your short post meant nothing.

Actually, what you mentioned is VERY VERY VERY common, but what they do is go thru corrections after that. It does work, this is what my teachers do in Secondary even, usually they do collect the corrections and go thru though.
