RI life should not be so stressful

RI life is actually not stressful for the boys...........but it seems to be extremely stressful for the mummies !!

I mean, eg kitcat, it doesn't matter how the sch stream the students into whatever classes. Even IF it is based on Tscore or GE or whatever, it's all in the PAST. :slapshead:
Every boy starts off at the same footing again, and every boy is there on their own merits and is capable of keeping up with the syllabus and expectations. :celebrate:

what's important is for the boys to fit in, enjoy themselves and have a good time working towards their future. šŸ˜‰

if I remember correctly, the P said before there is no need for the boys to have any external tuition or enrichment supplements for their sch related subjects. So, relax....lest the parents' kanchiongness rub onto the boys.

sleepy:

We are tiny but what about Malaysia? Can't they do some arms wrestling with Indonesia? They suffer same haze with us year in year out.
Maybe...... Malaysia dont have such a high complains/population ratio as Singapore ?

All kpkb also no use, just ride it out lor. As one forumer stated earlier, nobody is happy about this situation, but I am sure steps are being taken to reduce the effect, as well as some preventive measures being worked out for the future.

I think some parts of Sumatra and Malaysia are lagi jialat than us.

• RE: Legal challenge to alumni priority policy

Ouchh !!

seems like a bait to me. ( borders on sounding like a personal attack wor )

in any case, think Pirated is barking up the wrong tree. We all know where 3Boys stand and I totally agree with 3Boys on this alumni issue. IT is extremely illogical - in my view, distance should be the main priority )

btw, my kids are also over with this...... and they are alumni from a 'reputable' sch. But I still agree with 3Boys on this issue and I still think this privilege is not fair at all.

I would have absolutely no qualms if this 'privilege' is removed or downgraded to behind the distance priority.

limlim:
If they can remove the pension scheme, should not be difficult to tackle this if they really want to.
Actually, many MPs are multi-taskers with numerous directorship or interest in various business is it not?

And the suggestion is.....? All elected to parliament quit their day jobs? then how will they know what a working man's or businessman's perspective is?

Ya lor, It is not like Singapore is soo big with soooo many problems that they can't handle other jobs at the same time, right? Some more most MPs and Ministers have strong grassroot support, they don't really have to hands-on at Town Council matters what, it shows they are good delegators ... they can spend their time with more worthy jobs forming policies that help make Singapore a better place to live in with GREATER impact, and planning 20 years in advance even though they do not have 20/20 eyesight or foresight - to see beyond ordinary citizens like us cannot see ....... :siam:
concern2,

the problem is some of those older generation MPs sit on so many boards that they also dont know whats going on. just 'bak ji le mia' (mark your name) to enhance company reputation, and can soemtimes get nice year end directors' fee. I know of some directors see once a year, can get 6 figure sum de last time. Gold mine, sibei song.

nobody ask them to quit their day jobs ( like the WP guys so as to focus on ppl ), but they moonlight so many part time jobs until morn morn cha cha .

we kpkb about PRs and ppl abusing loopholes to make money renting out HDB, this one lagi easy, rent out name nia nia

Say we grab people from the streets & ask for their opinions, I seriously doubt anyone would wholeheartedly support this overpopulation plan.

Problem is decision makers are not listening. They have already decided (apparantly) and are now merely trying to pitch to everyone else that they know best.

They certainly look very determined to proceed with this plan, regardless of what Singaporeans said
.

By the way, I own many properties and for so many years even when at time the property prices drop by more than 30%, I have never for once been called up by any of the banks to top up my mortgage loan. So you see, the truth and the myth is so much different.
JannettLee, you are obviously a very savvy investor, and can weather any storm well.

However, what the govt is doing is to deter THOSE who are not from jumping into the fray if they are ill-equipped or not prepared in the event the bubble does burst suddenly..... and the bubble usually happen very fast. It could wipe out the poor chap, albeit his own greedy fault.

JannettLee:
Resale HDB flats transacting at $800k-900k, isn't this a bubble or genuine demand? A bubble in HDB property market right? Are we seeing real effective cooling measures being implemented for HDB property market? The answer is obviously no. So why no? they are sleeping? Trying to put out \"perceived\" fire in 20% private property market when in fact fire is ragging in the 80% HDB property market!

pirate:

The foreigners are not coming in to buy in any numbers. The softest segment of the market is the upmarket segment in the central districts and district 15. The strongest demand is for developer sales in the suburbs. Why? Because one only needs to plonk down 20% and then wait for the developers to build. Most of the buyers don't even know what they are buying. Wait till they get their keys then they will know.

Private resale market of completed units is not particularly strong.

The market is now perceived as genuine demand when it is in fact a bubble. If it is genuine demand, the restrictions on financing for 2nd and subsequent properties will have no impact on the market.

Pirate already explained the current situation very clearly.

regarding your question on why no cooling measures for HDB and only on pte property ? Isn't it obvious ?

any cooling of pte property prices will naturally lead to cooling of HDB prices, its a dominos effect..... and it does not work both ways proportionally.

• RE: What to do: Fighting in School

Rational_Parent:
I think this is only me....

Boys fighting, to me, is a process of growing up. This is where a boy learn how and when to draw a line between right and wrong, learn not to cross certain boundaries, learn that aggression benefits no one, learn to stand up to bully and protect oneself, and learn to defend the weak if necessary.

But too much fighting means a boy has a character flaw, may be anti-social, may have a superiority complex and so on. Conversely, if a boy does not get into fights at all could mean that he's anti-social, has inferiority complex and so on.

Bottom line fighting to me is not all that wrong if within reasons (e.g. was constantly provoked, had to stand up to a bully) particularly when playing with others. It also gives me opportunities to educate the child and find out traits I might not know if DS doesn't gets into a fight. I rather my DS fight and learn when young than when they have a mind of their own. I'll be more worried if a boy has never once fought during his childhood.

As for punishment, it's still the 'Carrot and the Stick' method for me. Deny the child what they love to do most for a period is my preferred punishment. For example, one of my children love to play computer games and chat with other gamers. Depending on the reason for a fight, teachers input and frequency of occurrences, the duration of the computer ban is imposed accordingly. I'll be lenient if my boy fight in defence of himself or others, and will teach him other ways to deal it given the same situation.

Surely we all fought before and learn something when we were kids, don't we?
well said, RParent :goodpost:

i agree totally. my DS also get involves in some scuffles/fights in Pr and Sec. No biggie, usually standing up to abusive taunting sch mate or helping a fren who was bullied.
But we still met out some punishment of course, but inside, I am a proud dad
