RE: Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)
First time here.
After posting result is out. Besides go buy uniform, what else can be done? We wait for instructions from secondary school? Via PG? We call them? They call us?
Please enlighten. Thank you. -

Ok ok.
You over think, you over worry yourself un-necessarily ! Please get rid of all these wrong, anxiety thoughts, out of your mind !
All of you out here, in this public forum, tell me :-
If students with AL 4 cannot even get into their desired school,
Then,
Who else, can get in ?
Won't you (those students), those with AL 5 or AL 6, worry & panic even much more ?
I shall heed the advices of the expert here.
Thant means I should go buy uniform first without waiting for results? -

I better don't count the chicks until they are hatched.
Once u score AL 4,
you can attend any Secondary school in Singapore that you wish (desire), regardless of SG citizenship or PR. Thus, your daughter will be admitted into IB (MGS), her first choice school, based on your list (above). Congratulations !
My biggest worry is that they have only 120 slots for IP. Less slots taken up by DSAs, maybe left with 100 slots. PSLE was easy this year. I will not be surprised that there will be more than 100 AL4s vying for the slots. May boil down to balloting. -

I believe students with AL4 will be slightly more this year, given the easier PSLE.
Is it possible for AL4 or AL5 student not to get into his/her first choice? Practically it is not possible. The school doors are open for any AL4 or AL5 students. Unless the applications for a particular secondary school is flooded by AL4/5 students, it is not possible. Even in theory it might be a no. There may be abut 300-400 AL4 students (boys and girls). Let's say if all of AL4 boys (~150-200) apply for say RI secondary only, there would still be enough spaces for them assuming each cohort is 200 for RI.
So why would AL4 student not get his/her first choice? It is unthinkable...but it is possible if AL4 boys want to play punk and put first 5 choices as MGS, SCGS, Cedar, RGS, NYGH and the last choice RI. So theoretically, the boy will get his 6th choice....just for self-amusement....
My worry is MGS IP officially has only 120 slots. DSA kids maybe take up 20 slots. That left with 100 slots. That is very limited slots. That is the crucial factor. -
RE: Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)
Kid got PSLE score AL4.
Is it safe to put
MGS IP
NYGH IP
RGS IP
MGS IP only got 120 slots per cohort. Less DSA kids. Perhaps only 100 slots. I wonder if there are alot of AL4s kids registering for MGS IP this year too given the easy PSLE.
Also. NYGH got their affiliation intakes.
RGS seems safer bet with no affiliation. Should put it as 1st choice?
My only worry is MGS full take up. Then my second and third choices may not materialise as probably RGS AND NYGH slots are filled up by other kids in the round of first choice.
Can share some advice? Thanks -

RE: Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)
Hi,
My gal is interested in MGS IB. She has gotten AL4 which was a pleasant shock to us. We weren’t prepared for her getting this score, hence we did not pay much attention to the top schools during the open houses.
Can any kind soul give an insight to the school life. I understand it is a more balanced approach, compared to NYGH or RGS which are more academically demanding.
Also, is MGS very religiously inclined? Religious activity everyday?

Thank you for the insights. Sigh. Didn't know that choosing a secondary school is so stressful.
Congrats! Based on feedback from other parents and some of my daughter’s classmates who have been in each school, I think RGS is a competitive environment where everyone is striving to study harder and do well while Nanyang is slightly more relaxed and the ties with HCI are quite strong. However MGS IB will allow your DS to spend 2 years in ACS(I) which could be beneficial and has the most interaction with opposite genders. However there is minimal interaction during the first 4 years while Nanyang and HCI regularly organise sports meets and other events together. Overall I would pick MGS IB as I really like the curriculum becoz it equips these youths better for real world situations and increased interaction with classmates as there are many group projects -

I dunno. I feel the school's layout is more structured for RGS and Nanyang. RGS being a fairly new campus with all the tech stuff (ergonomic classroom furniture).Nanyang's Layout is very organised. It is just my layman's observation. MGS seems to be abit cluttered.
Congrats! Will you please share more what you like with RGS and Nanyang please? What gives your child the impression that RGS environment is toxic?
MGS's 6 year program will end with IB. Does it matter to you or your child?
RGS, probably all the gifted and high flyer students are there. Hence tends to be competitive. I assume that is what they meant by toxic.
IB and IP about the same right? Just that IB is more ang moh, while IP is more locally?
You probably guessed I am really novice at all this secondary school selection.
Any advices or information will be grateful.
