    • RE: Q&A - P5 Chinese

When I was teaching my pupils, I discovered that they are not familiar with the words in the textbook and lack vocabulary, so I lead them to write out all the words in every chapter in the textbook (new textbook) in a notebook. I standardize the format of writing and make it into a exercise to revise all the words in the primary 5 and 6 textbook daily. In 3 months time One can complete the 500-600 words in p5 to p6 and I let the pupil read any 3 pages daily after that testing a few times to make sure they follow through the daily reading.

After 6 months, they response that their comprehension improved due to better understanding of the words and composition misspelling are greatly reduced improving their compo marks too. The improvement in their vocabulary after making the 3 months of notes and the constant revision till PSLE have helped all of them at least PASS their PSLE Chinese.

    • RE: PSLE Chinese - General Discussion

      Dear parents,

Wordlist is the key to vocabulary and vocabulary is the key to language learning. how did you know your English is bad, you have bad vocab! same thing when you discover your Chinese is bad, you have bad vocabulary.

Wordlist is the systematic way to build vocabulary without much effort, just do it everyday, like study 3-5 words everyday, and truly understand them to use them. it builds habit too.

Do it quickly improve results like in 3 months studying wordlists?
NO, this is not a quick fix, its build foundation in your Chinese which you will benefit even after sec 1 and 2. normally with 6 months of diligent study, you will see improvements. not big ones but great ones like you will \"read\" smoother and fluently than before and your comprehension is better for passages too.
This is for those who want to buy the primary 5 to 6 Chinese Wordlist (New textbook) you can now use paynow, you can use the link below to do that. DO Look out for the confirmation page for the links.

3 steps to full marks in PSLE Chinese Paper 2 Section A 50/50
Afterall its just 25 MCQ questions right?

This section is the easiest one to score high 50/50 but it requires a lot of study and study requires tactics.

step 1. You need to get the primary 5 and 6 new edition Chinese textbook, and study the words in the chapters.
Specially for you, I got the word list now: https://bit.ly/Newwordlist

Step 2, Study tactics one: Do only a few words everyday and by 3 months you studied 700 words.

Step 3, study tactics 2: revise 1 or 2 words everyday and you revised 200 words in 3 months.

Comprehension is about understanding and analysis,

composition is about story telling and expression.
Better teach your child to fish than to give them fishes!
Read Chinese book daily is better than a thousand examination Tactics or tips!

    • RE: Q&A - PSLE Chinese

I think You can safely ignore your classroom teacher's advise and encourage your child to go for it and write 3.5-4 pages. In PSLE there is no formal limit to how long your child can write.

Next grading is not according to page length but content and language. So long compositions do not really matter as long as your child are cleared of
      1) Sentence construction mistakes and
      2) grammar and vocabulary mistakes.

So if your child can do it, do encourage them to write more.

refer them to articles below to learn more on scoring in Chinese Compositions.

Can any teachers help. My kid school teacher keep restricting my kid to write only 3 pages for compo. Is it advisable. My kid usually can write up to 3.5 or 4 pages with good phrases. I thinks 3 pages only limit kid to using good phrase, so is this PSLE standard to write only 3 pages? Please advise. Thanks
