Regarding PSLE HCL Comprehension question(the last question, the open-ended question)

https://postimg.cc/4mdM4sgt
This kind of question is to ask student what kind of moral lesson(道理) is learnt from this story.
I will need to check with a few things:
1. Normally, the moral lesson is obvious from the last paragraph: Yes or no?
2. For the real-life example part, one can use the story in the passage with some adjustment. Yes or no?

And also, is there a possibility that there will be TWO or MORE possible answer for the moral lesson?

Like for example,

https://postimg.cc/2qbLCqHJ
https://postimg.cc/4mdM4sgt
https://postimg.cc/v1JgTQkm
According to the answer in the exam paper seller, it is using the info from the last paragraph to answer. It is understandable.

However, I do feel that another answer seems possible also: Something like \"人不可貌相,要观察一个人不能光从一时的表面来判断,要更仔细地观察\". The example used is something like \"结交新朋友时要小心,不能轻易相信,要仔细观察,以免被朋友欺骗\"(The reason for using such an answer is because the main character is tricked by the act of that faker into choosing her as the class monitor)

Is it a bad idea to answer like that?

1. Normally, the moral lesson is obvious from the last paragraph: Yes or no?

It is usually mentioned in the last 1 to 2 paragraphs of the compre passage but mostly/always in an abstract manner (in reference to the plot of the compre). Students have to understand the underlying meaning(s) and/or how to relate the principle to daily life/more general situations so as to elaborate/explain in detail.

Here's 2019's PSLE HCL as an example:
https://i.imgur.com/LvCxorm.jpg\">

https://i.imgur.com/q8BJpEi.jpg\">
As you would notice, they didn't even 'bother' asking student what's the principle behind the story/incident (which quite a % of students will simply copy what the 爸爸 said).

(On a side note, part of the suggested answer in the example listed in the original post is actually not appropriate - the \"自己也得保持可是清洁\" part. That part should be something applicable to life in general - 自己也要有正确的行为/做正确的事。)
2. For the real-life example part, one can use the story in the passage with some adjustment. Yes or no?
Yes, as long as the main item/activity is not exactly the same.

For example, if the theme is related to perseverance and the story is about learning how to ride e-scooter, then real-life example can be learning how to cycle/swim etc.

If the theme is about honesty with regards to items lost on the road (路不拾遗) and the story was about returning a lost wallet, then the real-life example should not involve wallet again.

Do note that in the real life example, the answer must be detailed/clear - can't just mention words like 遇到困难 (elaborate on what the difficulty is), 东西 (state what the thing is),努力 (how? what did you do?) etc.
And also, is there a possibility that there will be TWO or MORE possible answer for the moral lesson?
It is possible that there may be more than 1 principle involved (quite seldom though) but students should identify the main/most direct one (in relation to the story plot). One important step to take is to recap the incidents/main points from the entire passage before making a conclusion.

a. 丽明连续几天放学后都会擦板板,并得到老师的赞美 (paragraph 1, 2)
b. 老师不在课室+投选班长结束后,丽明态度完全改变 (paragraph 3, 4)
c. 香香原本去教员室,想把事实告诉老师但却“倒了回来”,把白板擦干净 (paragraph 5)

\"人不可貌相,要观察一个人不能光从一时的表面(现)来判断,要更仔细地观察\" would not cover in depth/point out directly point a+b's doing something for ulterior motive and point c's 香香's eventual decision to clean the whiteboard herself.

Lastly, since the change in format in 2017, questions regarding qualities/traits have been tested twice. Do ensure the kids know the common adjectives/characteristics well and know how to write them (if they have not already done so 😓 ).

but by stating \"don't judge people simply based on the action/surface, but instead take a longer/detailed observation\", this student will definitely get no mark in this case? I mean, it is also one of the moral lessons in this story, and also quite obvious, ain't it? The main characters also stated (quite explicitly) that she regretted trusting 丽明 too much, showing that it is a bad idea to judge someone too quickly on the mere surface and action.

Sorry, I forgot to state that marks will still be awarded (since it does show the kid's understanding with regards to a large part of the story) but not full, for the reasons stated in my previous post (the part regarding points a,b,c).

This question focuses on full understanding and appreciation of the entire story and the details mentioned (and the kids are taught/reminded about this) thus missing out on taking into consideration point c would make the answer 'incomplete'.

How to do well in PSLE Chinese Language paper 2 Section A?

3 steps to full marks in PSLE Chinese Paper 2 Section A 50/50
Afterall its just 25 MCQ questions right?

This section is the easiest one to score high 50/50 but it requires a lot of study and study requires tactics.

step 1. You need to get the primary 5 and 6 new edition Chinese textbook, and study the words in the chapters.
Specially for you, I got the word list now: https://bit.ly/Newwordlist

Step 2, Study tactics one: Do only a few words everyday and by 3 months you studied 700 words.

Step 3, study tactics 2: revise 1 or 2 words everyday and you revised 200 words in 3 months.

Any one here who is familiar with current psle marking criteria, former moe tr?

For CL compo, is it compulsory to use lesson learnt in the ending? Students cannot use creative way to end in CL? Like allow reader to interpret own ending and lesson learnt.

Hi 6thisnthat9,

It is not compulsory to end the story with a typical lesson learnt conclusion but the theme of the story needs to be highlighted. For example, if it's about honesty, then it can be included in the dialogues involving a character in the story. Reason why most end by concluding lessons learnt is because this is the most straight forward method to 点题 and 表达中心思想.

As for \"allow reader to interpret own ending and lesson learnt\", if there's no clear/previous mention(s) earlier in the essay, then nope, mainly because it is not effective to gauge if the candidate managed to identify the theme and/or subthemes (rubrics for compo marking https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25131&start=970#p1893302).
