I think SOTA will set up both a formal (school) and informal parents chat group.

I am not 100% sure but it may have to do with the prerequisites for uni admission? Looking at the SOTA curriculum pdf, it looks like IBDP Category 6 (The Arts or Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts) must be taken at the Higher Level (IBDP has six categories, three are taken at Higher Level and three are taken at the Standard Level). Some uni courses may require certain subjects taken at HL and if you use up one of the three spots for The Arts (Category 6), you may not be able to meet the requirements for some courses (if your interests change dramatically)? I don't think this would block all uni courses, but perhaps some that require two sciences at HL.ksks\" post_id=\"2037574\" time=\"1631415057\" user_id=\"1042:

Hi ksks,
Thanks for sharing, this is exactly what I want to know.
I realised I have a few friends whose kids studied in SOTA before so happy to share some paths taken:
- one studied visual arts in SOTA and aced art there but realised that he prefers maths so he is pursuing a maths degree in US
- one studied drama in SOTA but pursuing econ in UK university
So studying in SOTA does not necessary mean that one must pursue that art form in university. Many chose alternative routes and many chose to study overseas not related to art. It is likely that IB syllabus and SOTA culture mimic international school so possibly students feel that they can adapt better in overseas universities vs our local ones.
In contrast, for students not involved in \"The Arts,\" Category 6 can be substituted with another class from previous categories.
I don't know about UK university, but US university will generally be willing to take in students with a wide variety of backgrounds / not so restrictive on prerequisites in grades 10-12 (or the last couple/few years before uni).
I think if u read the SOTA curriculum, by the time they get to Year 5-6, they will only take one science. I did hear of sota kids doing medicine eventually but this wld mean they will have to give up their art form so that they can do the sciences. The option is open but not common.
Tbh, a lot of us when we get to JC, don’t continue to do double Sciences. I only took physics in JC myself. If the child are into sciences, then SOTA is not the right choice for your child. I think this is the key consideration for now. -

Take a look at the dsa requirements for the schools this year. Pre covid, the schools used to ask for grade 5 but that has changed in the last two years. They no longer ask for grade 5. SOTA doesn’t even ask for certificates or competitions but pick candidates for audition based on the solo dance portfolio that was sent in. My advice is go with a ballet school that can help you with the dsa preparation.
Hi, my girl is currently in P2, she has done a few genres of dance and for ballet, she is taking RAD and had tried both CC n dancepointe before. She performs well in class but I feel the current school doesnt suit her for we are looking to progress her via DSA dance route. I think I might have to move her to another school which can help her better along that line. Any recommendations for such school or rather any recommended teachers that can help to bring out the best in her and for more competition opportunities? Also, if she is doing Grade 2 now, is it too slow to meet the min Grade 5 requirement by P5? -

We got CO from SOTA for dance too. Let’s connect since our girls will be in the same dance cohort.
Hi, my DD received CO for dance too. Wondering what's the uni course she can goes to after the IB program. By the way, there's an email invitation to SOTA e-Cohort and Parents Engagement Programme (e-CPEP) on Saturday, 16 October 2021, maybe you can find out more during this engagement programme.Eureka16\" post_id=\"2037497\" time=\"1631347701\" user_id=\"190795:
Hi,
Got CO from SOTA thru LA.
I would like to know the school environment in SOTA. How's the students discipline there? Does the school emphasize on discipline and character development?
Do they segregate the class from Y1 base on the academic results?
Which way better into local university? IB or IP programme? Every input is valuable.
Hope to hear from all so we can make informed decision. Thank you. -

During SOTA's e-open house this year, I heard the Principal mention they have, in previous years, pupils who fell into the Express/NA option band. So I think the minimum for SOTA would be 22. But if you really need it in writing, please do check with SOTA directly.Good afternoon everyone !
I have a question for SOTA. The letter says \"must be qualified for express\". With the new scoring Express is between 4 to 20 with an option at 21 and 22. So the min score for SOTa is 20 or 22 ?
Thank you !

Yes, thanks gksmummy for the heads up.
Hi gksmummy,
Thanks for the heads-up.
Just a reminder to all parents that SOTA only accept students through DSA, so if your child is keen, do check out its website and open house.
Students can start preparing their portfolio for submission (refer details in the link below).
All the best! :rahrah:

I just finished listening to the Principal’s Zoom presentation (30 min only). She mentioned that the kids’ PSLE range is from as low as the NA/Express option band...to high 270s.
-

I believe each school already has their own WL and the ranking of WL. So it depends on how high up your child is at in that list, so don’t bet too much of it. Historically, abt 50% of WL converts on a big picture basis based on stats.
If there are more than 1 applicant under WL, how will the school decide who will get it first? through ballot or merit? -
RE: DSA 2021
Can my child, who has received Confirmed Offer or put on the Wait List by a school, decide not to select the school?
Answer:
Your child can decide whether to select the school during the School Preference Submission in end October 2021.
If they do not submit school preference by the end of the School Preference Submission, they are deemed to have withdrawn from the Direct School Admission - Secondary (DSA-Sec).
They will then be eligible to participate in the centralised Secondary 1 Posting.
