      Hi Mathsparks

Ya, my girl is P6 GEP, not sure whether the teacher will guide them on the DSA. Since like the teacher is rushing with time to finish up the P6 topics, not sure whether got time to go thru DSA with the children.

      Hi

My girl in GEP P6 next year. Any ideas whether will Nan Hua teacher brief them on how to prepare for the DSA like portforlia or interviews.

Any idea what types of questions they will be asking. Is GEP students stand a better chance.

      Tks

Don't worry. By the first half of P6 the school would have prepared them for DSA. My dd's school teachers briefed them on what to include in their portfolio, training sessions were held for interviews, and ex-students also came back to give talks to the students.

      Hi turquoise,

Tks for the great informations. I think I am worried too much, must learn to relax.

      Hi TJas,

if yr girl is not good in Maths, then I would advise u not to apply DSA for NUSHS. Think when her school gave report book, it provided a slip of paper to show the highest, ave & lowest. Was her Maths the lowest? If not, not to worry too much. IMO, GEP Maths is one of the toughest subject.
Since she got cert for creative writing camp, it may (not very sure) carry weight in DSA application. Think not many student is selected for the 4 day camp.
      My advise for u:
      1. Don't miss her school MTP usually held in Jan. One GEP official will present DSA.
      2. Attend her GEP school DSA talk/exhibit. During this talk, some IP schools will talk to P6 students. These is where IP school hold their road show. Heard 1 principal even attend this road show.
      3. Attend DSA Open house. Talk to the principal/staffs for their advise. For NUSHS, you can miss it.
      Cheers! šŸ˜‰
      Hi Father-of -3

Tks. Her maths score is not the lowest but at the average. I know NUSHS is definately out for her. It is true that GEP has a better chance of getting thru DSA. Any suggestion on good maths assessments for P6.

      Hi TJas,

Have a chat with your dd's Math teacher and find out which are her weak areas and work on them during the holidays. If she's weak in concepts, you have to work on them immediately and practise during the holidays.

Which school is she from and which schools does she intend to DSA for?
      Hi turquoise

Her school is in the west, she intend to DSA for NYHS and NJC. Any ideas what questions will be asked during DSA interviews.

    • RE: How to improve in Maths and English

      Hi All,

I fully agreed is attitude problems. She once told me all her friends are very hardworking and spend long hours of studying. But she claims this is not her style of studying. She rather reads tons of storybooks than spend long hours on revisions. She done well on mainstream top school maths and english papers and found them rather easy as compared to GEP. I should work on her confidence now but since very difficult. She has no problem with her science and chinese.

    • RE: How to improve in Maths and English

      Hi all,

The baseline for GEP subjects are 70%, only for English is 65%. My dd maths and English are always just hit the baseline. I am not too sure whether my expectation is high since she passed the baseline. BTW, she is very good in these subjects before she joined the GEP. I fully agreed with the stopping of computer games but she claims she needs to disstress herself. She is always hooking on her storybooks even during examination period. What can I do?
