Hi. Mine still a few years from secondary school 😂

There’s also the ‘small’ issue of her meeting CGSS future COP, whatever that may be.

Ah. Nice to see you all here anyway! All the best for her meeting it!
Generations of Cedarians had walked from the bus stop to the school and in the years before the MRT station was built, walked across the cemetery on a daily basis without much fanfare or worries. I guess if potential students aren’t even able to tahan this small challenge, they probably don’t have “it”.

IKR! Never heard my DD complain about 4 years of walking. Rain or shine also walk cos we don't ferry her much at that time. btw, they don't walk across the cemetery lah.

Nowadays no more cemetery lah. In my time and the time of my peers. That’s why I say Pre-MRT station days :rotflmao:
Hi Floppy and Zeemimi! Long time no see.
Currently 79 PAP MP + 9 WP MP

LTK wants 20 WP MP which means 68 PAP MP

      做工的人少了11个,问问题的多了11个, is it helpful?

Let's remember PAP MP are the ones planning and running all aspects of Singapore. Let's not forget we are just a little red dot competing globally.

      Good point Lavina!!
Where got 79 PAP? I thought it's 87 PAP and 7 WP?

      1) lower or larger winning margin for WP?

Won't be fair or even possible to guess, unless you are looking at specific GRC/SMC (as it would distort the overall winning/losing margin). Popular vote has little bearing in a first past the post electoral system.

      Aljunied - higher.
      Hougang - same.
      Punggol East - higher.

Fengshan - not possible to guess since it did not exist as a SMC.
East Coast - higher but (unfortunately) may not be enough to push it over the edge.

My guess, lower, lower, lower, PAP win, PAP win (fortunately). We shall see next week.
This Cherian George article http://www.airconditionednation.com/2015/09/04/voters/ is quite good.
If the outcome differs from the preferences of the losing party or its supporters, that’s not a freak election. That’s just an election. Conversely, if the outcome can be guaranteed by any one party and there’s absolutely no risk of surprises, that’s not a non-freaky election – it’s probably fraud.

It isn’t even a freak election if people vote against what all experts agree is in the public’s enlightened self-interest. It is precisely because we have no mechanism to second-guess the electorate, and because no group of experts should decide on behalf of everyone else, that we need to go through the cumbersome process of elections in the first place.

Instead, we should define a freak election as one that yields a result that the majority of voters didn’t actually want. This outcome is possible because voting is a kind of collective action that is prone to coordination problems: we act partly based on our expectations of others’ actions, but we don’t really know what they will do.

For example, if you want the PAP in charge but also want more Opposition, how you use your vote will depend a lot on your estimation of the state of play. If you live in a hot seat, and you believe that the national tide is in the PAP’s favour, you might be inclined to help the Opposition win in your constituency. On the other hand, if you’re convinced that the Opposition is going to do very well nationally, you might vote for the PAP in your ward.

In either case, if you and others like you assess wrongly, you’d end up using your vote in a way that goes against your own wishes. You overestimate the PAP, vote Opposition, and contribute to ousting the PAP, to your horror. But note that a freak election could work the other way: you underestimate the PAP’s popularity, give your vote to the ruling party, and end up with a decimated Opposition, contrary to your wishes.
I wonder why there's a need for sample count...so that the candidates can mentally rehearse their defeat/victory speech?! 🤷

      http://i58.tinypic.com/25gqrly.jpg\">
At the start of the counting process, a random bundle of 100 ballot papers will be selected for each of the 833 polling stations.

      - A counting assistant will count the number of votes for each candidate, or group of candidates for a GRC, before the candidates and counting agents present.

      - The votes will be added up, with weightage given to account for the difference in the number of votes cast at each polling station.

      - A sample count will then be shown as a percentage of valid votes garnered by each candidate, or group of candidates.

      - The assistant returning officer will then record the votes and share it with candidates and their agents.

      - A sample count for the GRC or SMC will be released to the media and published on the ELD website.
Yah I just heard abt this today...

ostensibly it's so that there are less disputes after results are announced, less pressure on the counting agents...

surprised that we need to do this... maybe everyone wants to go home early and not stay back to recount recount recount....

I watched LTK on internet last night and boy can he hold an audience.... :udaman:

He is a big part of why WP is successful.

Yes. in Teochew. I thought I was in mini Swatow.

Some of the new WP candidates cannot speak very well. Hardly audible. Best speakers were : Pritam Singh, PEH, LTK and SL. CSM cannot deliver rally speeches. Yawnzzz...

Most people went specially to listen to LTK's teochew speech.

I wonder if CSJ will speak in Hokkien.
i thought the variety of languages and dialects were so heartwarming. Truly reflects our heritage as a multi-racial society, and the richness of dialects, spoken by those who have these dialects as mother tongue. It really makes a difference when one speaks in their heart-language.

A bit like how I felt when watching 7 Letters too!
Having said that, rally attendance =/= votes!

      Lots of kpos.

      hahaha...

Read this from a FB post:

The WP draws the crowd the PAP wishes it had
The PAP draws the votes the WP wishes it had.

I think they have both come to a resigned acceptance of status quo. As PAP vote share shrink maybe their rally crowds will rise? 😉
Haha! A bit hard leh. Their oratory skills leave much to be desired. Not that elections should be won on oratory of course...

Chee Hong Tat and his power ranger cartoon antics... wonder if he'll tone down... very cartoon leh. But I thought Ng EH did quite well. He looks so cheery these days.
