Take this scenerio, the school have 50 places left and now there are 200 students with COP 10 vying for the 50 places.

60 placed this JC as first choice, 40 as second choice, 40 as third choice and the remainder on lower choices.

Does it mean that all these 200 ( all things being equal), will be put into a ballot for the remaining 50 places ?

or will the ballot be only conducted for the 60 that placed the college as first choice ?

Read the booklet. It doesn't mention choice as a factor. Call MOE and see if they have your answer.

Please share your answer here if you have. πŸ˜„

coloursofthesky:
Hi there,

My l1r5 is 13 and l1r4 is 12 after deducting my bonus points.
I have always wanted to go to Meridian jc and its also the closest to my house as I stay in the east. As Meridian (11 pts) and Tampines jc (13pts) are merging, moe states that the COP of such schools may increase. So do you think I still have a chance to get into tpmjc?

There are also other options such as millenia (l1r4 - 16 for science) but I am not sure if I would be motivated to study there even though the fact that the syllabus is spread out into 3 years is appealing.

anderson jc (11) and serangoon jc (13) which have similar COP as mjc and tpjc are also merging. So should I give that a chance too?

I think I can get into Pioneer jc (13) and Jurong jc (15) which are merging but it's really far away from my house.

I am really lost and confused as I don't know what to do now. I can't get into most jcs in the east. I always wanted to take the A levels and I have not come to a decision on what to take in poly either.

Please help this poor soul 😞
Based on 2018 JAE booklet, cop of mjc, tpjc, ajc and srjc should be 11,14, 9 and 12, resp for science stream; 11, 13, 11 and 13, resp. If you are looking at arts stream, chances of getting in to tpmrjc is higher.

Checking on behalf of friend’s DD. She gets net 11. Based on JAE 2018 booklet, AJC & SRJC Science COPs were 9 & 12, resp. What are the chances of being accepted by Anderson Serangoon JC please? Tks in advance.

Mike_Lee:

It really depends. I went with my DD to DHS open house in the early part of 2015. We were impressed not by the facilities or teachers or size of the school but rather by the affection and love that the senior students have towards DHS. For students, they can easily give an excellent presentation in any company any day.

The impression lasted even till 22/23 Dec 15 when we reported to DHS and we found that the seniors were the ones staffing the bookshop and uniform areas. They came back to work part-time and offered excellent advice (mainly due to the fact that they are students of DHS). I can obviously feel their pride as well as their humility being DHS students.

My DD did not make a wrong choice choosing DHS.
My dd's ex-classmate scored 258 and went to dhs 5 years ago. She did not enjoy her time in dhs as she felt that her classmates ostracised and looked down upon her. She was eventually transferred to the O level class and is studying in a poly now. Of late, my friend's dd (t-score 255) from dhs was also transferred to the O level class. She felt that the IP curriculum did not suit her and she had set her eyes upon poly in the near future. It could be due to her personality trait but somehow, the school and friends failed to motivate her enough to carry on with IP.

My daughter got 261+2 and appeal to NYGH unsuccessfully. Cal up just now to check and they informed that those successful one had been informed a few days ago ....

Rgs will lead to RI eventually. Moreover, why you want to squeeze into a school that take in students through affiliation? Nygh only leave the left over from their Nyps to the rest of Singaporean. Why would you bother to cry when you are rejected? If the entrance into the school can be so not equal chance, how can you ensure that your dd will be given equal chance in everything she wants to do in Nygh.

678Yess could probably be right.
My friend went to many Open House last year and she was so impressed by the teachers and school leaders in NYGH that she chose it. A year later, her comment was 'got tricked, the teachers and pupils aren't as impressive as they had portrayed to be...'.
There isn't any perfect school and so just move on. Keep giving encouragement to your dd even if she encounters unhappiness in sch as that is part and parcel of life wherever you are.

I got the same reply as btsfangirl when I called sngs twice. One said shortlisted wld have alr received their call for interview yesterday. Another one said finalize by tmr, only successful appeals will be notified. Btsfangirl & Still Thinking, do u have any call so far? They look only at Tscore & meet COP. If such new rule is so crucial, why don't they just reject any appeal less than their COP. Create false hope, stress, disappointment and anger!

Ya, I was called earlier today. Need go interview...

Congrats!
But for a 12 year old, you don't sound excited about the call at all and even got into a 'spat' too... :?
Perhaps you are nervous about the interview. Be yourself, honest and sincere during the interview ok?
Just to share: there will be a once-every-four-years event in 2015 called Victorian Challenge some time in the middle of the year, which is a 24-hour overnight challenge for each class to do something really big. Do look out for it!

Sound exciting! Can shed some light on what 'big' things they can do?

Sure! Without spoiling the fun, the challenge is linked to the number of years since VS's establishment. If I remember correctly, it should be VS's 139th anniversary this year. Past project's include painting large wall murals around the school, collecting 139kg (it was 131kg when this was done in 2007) of toys for charity, moulding 1390 clay figurines, cooking and selling 1390 chicken wings for charity, planting 139 seeds in the shape of the letters \"VS\", creating a 139 min film, etc etc etc. What each class does depends on how 40 boys reach an agreement together. πŸ˜“
Thanks victorian. This sounds really fun. πŸ•Ί
I shall wait in eager anticipation of what the boys can come out with. :boogie:

For last year, if a S1 pupil (O level track) scored an overall average of below 65%, his parent will need to meet up with the FT on the last day of school.

So please remind you ds to work hard!
