All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Ya. We like both schools. Likely to serve at both of them. Hope the project will not be too \"siong\".wenwen120280:
I am being offered PV opportunities for rgps and radin mas primary. Both have its strengths. Anyone has any thoughts or experience with the schools? Which one is better? Thanks.
If you could afford the time, you could volunteer in both schools so that you get to know the school principal, teachers, students, other parents and school culture.
I also volunteered a few years ago in other schools. It was through my involvement that I came to know the reason why one HOD did not send his child to the school he taught in. -

Care to share what you like about RMPS?
In addition, in your PV application, what is the address that you indicated? I am asking because the other member (KaisuDad) actually stays within 1 km from the school but his PV application was rejected. So, I would like to know whether the school takes into consideration the distance between the school and PV applicant's home address when evaluating the application. -

For us, it is simple. Based on what we know, rmps offers decent environment for the kids to grow. I dun think it is that competitive too. It is also pretty near to our work place.wenwen120280:

We are staying out of 2km. Candidly, we tried a few schools. The one that is nearer to our home, ie less than 2km, rejected us. My ex colleague's fren, who stays at jln kayu, was offered a pv at nanyang primary. So I think distance is not an issue. -
Hi ,
we did PV at Unity primary school for this year and we have completed 40 hrs of service.
But , do we get any Letter from MOE or school indicating that we are eligible to particpate in P2B ? if so, usually when do we receive the letter. Phase 2B registraion starts from Monday, 22 July 2013.
Thanks -

This letter (if any) should come from the school. Call up the school to enquire and make sure they do have your records, don't wait till last minute.Hi ,

For my stint (in another primary school), the school was good enough to send us a letter informing us of our eligibility and the date of registration (this even before MOE announce registration dates). I thought it was very nice of them to do that.
During registration, we did not have to show proof that we fulfilled our PV duties - the school has a list of eligible families they use to counter check on that day.
All the best! -

Hi wenwen, just curious, when u submitted your parent volunteer application to the schools, did you send in your PSLE, O'level and even your higher education certificates? Thanks

No. We didn't. But we submitted our resumes, proposals and highlight the areas that we think we could contribute to the schools as well as relevant exp. This is when I appreciate that I have been involved actively in my school cca. Phew!

Raffles Girls Primary School ranks top in accolades doled out by the MOE, with Rulang Primary School and St. Hildas Primary School running a very close second and third, respectively. Ai Tong School comes in fourth, while Catholic High School rounds out the top five spots. Number six is CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls School, followed by Chongfu School in seventh place. Gongshang Primary School comes in a very close eight place when examining the MOE awards. Henry Park Primary School has the ninth place spot while Kong Hwa Primary School finishes up the top 10. It’s important to note that Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School and Maris Stella High School have also received the same number, and status, of awards so it could be safe to say that there is a three-way tie for the tenth spot. -

Thanks much for the info. It is very helpful. Candidly, a lot of our friends said we are \"siao\" for considering giving up rgps. While we recognise its merits, we are more concerned if it is most suitable for our girls. Can they take the stress? Hence, we hope to know more about the school thru pv. Hope we will have a clear answer soon.

Anyone has any idea what is the maximum number of volunteers a school can take in?
I am enrolling my son in Woodgrove Primary this coming phase 2C.
Just want to work out my chances.
