Would you encourage your child to do social work?

Hi,Hi buds, CKS and all,
I'm discovering new threads on the KSP.com website daily.
Is this initiative taking off? I've been thinking about this for our kids and DH is all for the idea as well: Part of our goals for the family in 2010 as well.
Let me know details...am keen to expose the children to other ways of living. They've far too cushy a life, if you know what I mean! :stupid:
Me too. I mean, am interested. DS is still too young, but I want to expose him nonetheless (he can tag along, can he?? :D). I would like to volunteer as well if this initiative takes off

No prob! Seriously, I'm not bothered by such things in forums. I've come to learn that many people are actually much nicer in real person. :celebrate:
You're a doll... :hugs:
Well, i can't possibly bring myself to say...
\"You're a cow...\" Right? :siam:
Even IF your avatar IS of a cow.. -
Andaiz:
I don't really think that my girls have a far too cushy kinda life, Andaiz..Hi buds, CKS and all,

But... comfortable enough, i suppose... as compared to my time..
With me being the SAHM, they have learnt that they can't get everything
they want; sometimes even without even thinking it.. .. like when
i used to work full time. I liked spending stuff on the children when i was
working.. come to think of it, i still do.
Only less. Heh.
Buds_hubs and i have this hope of inculcating in them saving habits and
the value of money... that it is not so easy to come by... so they won't be
spoilt brats and ask for any stuff off the shelves. So my line is usually,
remember sweetie... mummy doesn't have that kinda $$$.. ya girls know
mummy doesn't work... but let's save and see if we can buy that when we
save enough.. DD2 is smarter, she says just use the card lah mummy. No
need to use money. :faint:
I explained to her, one cannot use card of any kind if it doesn't have
money in that (card's) bank... Then, of course that led to more why this
and why that... so had to tell her the whole story of how money saved in
the bank can be withdrawn from that card.... etc... etc... Which after all
that explaining, she still asked.. Sooo.... now got money or not in this
bank? If dun have then just use another bank.. (she said as a matter of
factly) :faint: I should've just kept on at mummy has no money verse..
Hahaa!
I'm thankful though DD2 didn't say that i could just get from CitiBank...
since... well...... that's where money lives. :faint: :faint: :faint:
I won't be too surprised if she WILL say that anyhow... anytime...autumnbronze:
My dearest friends Andaiz and autumnbronze... mebbe you care to checkHi, Me too. I mean, am interested. DS is still too young, but I want to expose him nonetheless (he can tag along, can he?? :D). I would like to volunteer as well if this initiative takes off

again the date on the posts to see when the idea came about and to the
current date we're in now.. suppose the initiative may not be comin' thru'
especially with Chief more busy now preparing his boy for PSLE... albeit the
chap is in P5 this year. He has to live up to the Kiasu deal right, being
a mod and all..

 okie .... but my interest/offer still hold/stand if in the event the initiative does take off in the future

hi all,
i was reading through the other threads in this forum and came across this thread and thought perhaps i should add my input.
I currently work at a student care centre (BASC) under a family service centre. Under our student care centres and childcare centres, we do have students who come from low income families and such whose children lack the necessary support at times to do well in school.
We do have an upcoming programme that is meant to target their academic needs and if you are interested, i could provide more info about it. -

Awritey! :celebrate: -
somehow I feel that singapore underprivileged are getting a lot of support compared to those in other countries. Generally I also find that my kids still live a pretty cushy life even though I am strict with them.
Perhaps social work in Singapore would expose them to something that is out of their comfort zone and jolt them into not taking everything for granted. -

Cheers to you too, sista! :celebrate:Good work Ladies --- helping under priviledge kids,
