        Hi snowyqueen!

Thank you for your insights on the teachers' expectation. My dd is enroled in that school too. She'll be in P1 next year. Now I wonder if she is prepared for the rigour of the school as I don't push her very hard and she spends most of her time playing apart from attending her regular kindregarten programme.

        Dear Socks and Luvmum,

I needed to go for ballot for 1-2km when I enrolled my girl in last year, so it was not correct to say that previously no balloting was needed.

The English syllabus will change next year for P1 and P2, so I also do not know what to expect. They will be adopting the STELLAR program which stands for Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading programme. For Maths, they are using Shaping Maths so you can go to popular bookshop to take a look at the syllabus. For Chinese, it should be the same textbook for most of the schools.

I am thinking if I should sign up my girl for I can read kind of literacy programme which is more similar to STELLAR. You all still have time to prepare your girls. For me, I will only know next year school re-open when parents are being invited to listen to the workshop on STELLAR.

        Cheers!

              Dear snowyqueen and luvmum,

Its been great 'talking' to you both. πŸ˜„ Will certainly provide more feedback when I have more to share.

snowyqueen, you just cleared my doubt about why there are no EL textbooks/workbooks for P1 next year. Was about to email the school. On another note, the P1s' classrooms are apparently on the 4th floor. Do you have any advice on the type of school bags - haversack or trolley? Is the load generally heavy for P1?

              cheers

                Hi luvmum,

something I dug out from an old email with the P.

\"For last year's (2007) registration 87 vacancies were available for Phase 2C. There were 38 applicants living within 1 km and they were all given places in the school. 51 applicants living between 1 km and 2 km balloted for the 49 remaining vacancies. Applicants living outside 2km did not get a place in the school. All these figures were for last year's registration exercise.\"

For 2008's registration, balloting for those staying outside 2Km. I do not have the break down. Also a detailed breakdown of the figures are projected outside the general office and updated constantly during the registration period.

                Hope this helps.

                πŸ˜„

                  Dear Socks,
There will be a parent workshop next year on the STELLAR programme which was being implemented in selected schools initially and slowly extended to more schools. I think by 2010, all primary schools will be adopting the STELLAR programme for their P1 and P2 English to compliment the SEEDS programme.

My advise is not to buy a trolley bag because they have to cliimb up the stairs. They are not supposed to take the lift. You need not buy a big bag because the students can keep the books at the classroom.

I hope your girl will enjoy her new school.
                  Cheers!

                    Dear Socks,

During your time did you think of if unable to get into CHIJ, what is your next alternative? That's why it's v risky for Phase 2C as by then shld be left with those unpopular school...but I wrote in for PV till now no reply from the Principal. I called the school and the admin told me the P v busy but confirm she gotten my letter...so no choice can only wait lor, but v sianz right.

                      Thanks for the advice.

                      luvmum,

our backup schools include Zhenghua (which emphasises character building and has a vibrant school culture) and Bukit Timah Pri (in a relatively good neighbourhood).
