Hi
I got a chance to transfer my daughter to RGPS or NHPS. Could anybody give me some idea which school I should choose? If I transfer my daughter to the school, it is likely that my kid will be seated at the \"normal\" class not the \"top-40\" or \"top-80\" class. Do you think it is still worthy for the transfer? thank you inadvance for you kind suggestion. -

Hi Stephen, we moved your thread here because we assume your child is already in Primary school and you are planning a transfer.Hi

You have to ask yourself honestly why you are planning the transfer. A good reason to do so is if your child is not doing well in his current school due to teachers or classmates.
I would advise against going to a school like RGPS or NHPS if your child is currently barely able to cope with her current school. She might be over-awed by the \"prowess\" of her new classmates and perform even worse in the new school. -
hi Stephen ,
Both are good schools
I just transferred my P4 DS1 to Nan Hua Primary this yr. I like this school - no regrets yet . My Ds1 is also more happy in this school compare to he last sch. There are always so many activitives on.
If I am in yr shoes, my priority will be -
1. distance from home to school
I dont believe in wasting time travelling especially when weather and traffic conditions may not be favorable at all times. Moreover, the kid has to wake up so early just to beat the traffic since NHPS is a single session school. Remember also, when the school has many activities, you will be running up and down, so if the school is nearby, it helps alot.
2. whether its co-ed
If i have a boy and girl , then i will go for co-ed. RVPS is a girls' school, so it will be another headache to find another school for my boy.
I guess depends on your kid. If she's brilliant, then no fear.
Any reason for wanting to transfer her out ?
Which school is your kid currently in?
Anyway this is how I feel. You have to make a decision .
Hope this helps.

Hi Aggellim
Thank you for sharing your opinion!
The major reason to transfer my daughter is to provide her an even better learning environment. Distance is our major concern but no choice. We live in Choa Chu Kang. The distance to either school is very far comparing her current school (2 min walk). Another consideration is that her current school achieved very well in past 2-year PSLE and my only daughter performed well in P1-3 in the school. That is why we got headache: are we doing right thing to bring her a better environment?
Just for curiosity or Kiasu, how does NHPS assign class for new transformers? I was allowed to transfer my kid but they refuse to tell which class my daughter was assigned. -
Hi Stephen,
I assume ur daughter must be doing very well in current school, hence both RGPS and NHPS are taking her in.
But I am curious why are u so concerned about which class she gets in? It seems like you want her to be in the top-40 or top-80 class but is it necessary? In my opinion, if your idea is just to get her a better environment, to get more peers of her same standard to mix around with, then an ‘average’ class in either RGPS or NHPS would suffice, as they may already be much better than the ‘top class’ of her current school.
I am not sure if she has taken the GEP selection test? If selected, she would definitely be in the ‘top-40’ or ‘top-80’ of either school, so u dont have to worry about that. -
vshine:
My girl make noise often said she had childcare friends on that sch..I so distress why i dont give her wht she like..she enjoy learning and lovely going to sch..but i and my hubby saw the currrent sch the character development and environment better..
vshine, kids complain about such things all the time. My girl also wanted to go to the same school as her cousins and best friends but it was impossible since we dont stay within 1km of either school. And anyway we reasoned with her that they may not be assigned to the same class, so no point...
Now she has sort of accepted the new school, and is looking forward to making new friends there! Kids make friends very fast one, dont u worry. -
Hi Luanee
The answer is Kiasu!
Actually my kid is more confident than I do. She likes RGPS and does not mind the class assigned for her. It is cos I got some opinions from my colleagues and I have no idea what really happens in these two schools. Then I start to worry. Now, I feel much better. Thanks -

Hmm... this is a bit confusing. For children entering into P1 next year (2009), they should have already gotten a place in their school in August this year (2008). Are you trying to transfer out of the current school into a new one immediately? You must first talk to the principal of your target school to ascertain you have a place first before you can do anything. -
Yes, you will first need to get a letter of offer (or something like that) that states that your child has been offered a place in P1 2009 at XXX primary school. Then you will have to go to the current school that your child is registered in, give them that letter and request to transfer your child out of the school. They will ask you to complete any paperwork needed. Finally you may have to go back to XXX primary school to complete the transfer.
Hope this helps!
