A very direct question to existing students and parent of NUSH.

Is NUSH a "study and no fun" school ?
      Heard people making that comment…

Hi, I'm current a Year 5 student going to Year 6. I suppose I can provide some insight in this regard.

First and foremost, the amount of time that my friends and I spend pouring over assessment books seems to be far less than that of other schools. One of my best friends has a twin sibling in another JC, and this difference is very clear.

Regarding \"fun\" though, I suppose it may have different interpretations. Those in NUSH are supposed to be (very) interested in mathematics and science, and thus find reading on such subjects fun. I used to have fun simply browsing Wikipedia. Some of my friends like to build things in the school Design & Engineering Lab. I'm sure that if asked, we would say that we are having fun, although others not sharing the same passion may not agree so.

Aside from such maths and science related stuffs, people do form clubs for various activities, such as Frisbee. All in all, I would say we are having a lot of fun. I am, at least.

Hi, can anyone advise on the number of school uniforms to purchase? How many shirts, PE shirts, collar t-shirts, long pants n shorts to purchase for Yr 1? Also when do students use the collar t-shirts?

          Thanks in advance.

Shirt, long pants and tie would be compulsory every Monday, so 1 set at least.
PE would be 1 set too.
Polo tee can be worn Tuesday to Friday, along with either long pants or shorts, depends on person. How many sets I guess depends on washing schedule, as my family washes on Wednesday night, I get 3 sets of polo tee + shorts (Tuesday Wednesday and a spare set). A more frequent washing schedule would probably need to buy less.

Snowy116, for her 1st year this year, my dc is very happy in NUS High. She scored well enough to go to any top school of her choice but chose NUS High. No regrets so far. School indeed has many maths & science enthusiasts some who are really gifted. However, there are also several activities and enrichment classes for those kids interested in languages. Due to the small no. of pupils, resources are aplenty and school is very supportive of the kids in pursuing their interests, both academic and outside academic. CCA is relaxed and fun. Well, this is so far our experience for year 1, hopefully, year 2 will be equally enjoyable.

PS: in terms of hours, school starts at 7.40am, dc had 3 days of school which ended at 5/6pm, 1 day at noon and the last at 2pm. But there are break time in between.

So no interview means no chance?
