Can you share what is the name of the centre and the location? ThanksHi parents,
I would really like to share with you my dd's creative writing class. As a parents, put aside the tuition fees, the traveling, what we want is to really see our dd improves and to help give them a chance to score.
My dd has been joined a creative writing in amk area. Initially I wasn't thinking much about the centre due to it not being 'branded' like mind champs and stuff. For me to pay $160 each month seems expensive for a neighborhood centre. But guess what, a year now and I am willingly and looking forward to my dd psle next year. Perhaps to some of you, I may be advertising for the centre. But, standing in the shoe of a mother, I will go all out to help my girls and I am sure all parents reading this will do the same thing.
Thus, I am writing this not to advertise but to share a new way to help our children improve. In fact, I have recommended a few parents from kiasuparents to the centre and the mother told me that the children are improving.
So, since I have personally experience this centre and my friends have too. I really would like to share with all of you this. To be frank, I like the small class size of 6 -8, I like the way they don't just throw my dd the composition and let her write or teach her word for word, I like it more as I can sit in and learn. Price is a concern and frankly, having my girls in p6 and sec4 is taking a toll on me financially but, as a mother, what can I do. I have to just scrimp on myself and try to give the children the best i can.
I really urge all parents who need helps in sourcing a good English teacher to go there. There is no harm trying for one or two month just like how I initially thought. What matter most is, we gave our children a chance to learn from teachers whom others recommended. If it turns our good, your dd will benefit greatly

I am referring to P1s in general. I had a P1 class last year and most were comfortable with the length, but they will need extensive help from teachers to guide them in the planning process and idea generation. The kids are now in P2 - still need a bit of help with the planning, but can assist me with substituting voabulary.

Tks The Writer.

In order for a child to write, the child must be exposed to lots of reading. Creative writing classes will not help reluctant readers much unless the child has the desire to read.

Depends on where you stay. My general recommendation is for you to check out the smaller scale/niche centres around your area. I've addressed this elsewhere before, but do make the effort to go to the centre and speak not just to the admin, but enquire about the teacher's class (how it's conducted, ratio) and if possible, speak to the teacher as well.
It sounds like a lot of hassle to have to allot time and bring DD down to the place, but a huge part of whether the investment will be worthwhile depends on the dynamics between your DD and the centre/teacher as well.

I second that. After spending some time talking to different centres, I have a better idea on how one centre differs from another.
Among the few centres I spoke to, there are some that emphasise on writing techniques during lessons, writings are to be done at home. Another type of centres will spend an hour or so on the techniques and thereafter, students are expected to craft a composition within a given time. The writing will be marked and feedback given on the spot.
That's just one of the few differences i observed. So, you will need to consider carefully your child's needs before signing her up with the centre. -
Thank You metz & TheWriter.
