\"Silent banding\" @ end of p2 - only the school know, parents won't know. (Because silent)

      \"Official banding\" @ end of p3 - better clarify with school.
End of P2, the students will be officially banded for Chinese into CL and HCL classes.

End of P3, the students are streamed according to their school results - English, Math and Science. Chinese will, again, be banded into CL and HCL.

Hi All - any reco for creative writing classes - I dont want a flashy and expensive one; someone who can kindle my DD spirits. Any teacher or small scale class?

      TIA

      Hi libran269

Depends on where you stay. My general recommendation is for you to check out the smaller scale/niche centres around your area. I've addressed this elsewhere before, but do make the effort to go to the centre and speak not just to the admin, but enquire about the teacher's class (how it's conducted, ratio) and if possible, speak to the teacher as well.

It sounds like a lot of hassle to have to allot time and bring DD down to the place, but a huge part of whether the investment will be worthwhile depends on the dynamics between your DD and the centre/teacher as well.

I second that. After spending some time talking to different centres, I have a better idea on how one centre differs from another.

Among the few centres I spoke to, there are some that emphasise on writing techniques during lessons, writings are to be done at home. Another type of centres will spend an hour or so on the techniques and thereafter, students are expected to craft a composition within a given time. The writing will be marked and feedback given on the spot.

That's just one of the few differences i observed. So, you will need to consider carefully your child's needs before signing her up with the centre.

    • RE: Vitamindz - difference between Einstein and Newton worksheet

Oh, I wasn’t aware that students can get it from school bookshops. For my son’s school, the order is handled by the teacher.

As the worksheets were done and kept in school last year, I am not sure which series he did.

Edit : I recalled the first Vitamindz worksheet on Matters that he brought back as homework. Questions seem to be rather tricky and of higher order thinking.

Correct me if I am wrong. I was told that Vitamindz Einstein and Newton Series are not for sales to the public. The worksheets are available to teachers through schools. But only certain schools are using these worksheets. Perhaps that’s why no response.

We requested for transfer from south view to Nan Hua...was accepted. We r wondering should we accept the offer..... my girl is P4 n she is reluctant to leave her friends....

Both are good schools. What were your reasons for putting on waiting list earlier on? Are those reasons still valid now?

When we first discussed with my daughter about the need to change school, she was rather against the idea as she had made good friends in her previous school. But the long drive from her school to our new place changed her mind instantaneously. She still misses her friends but they are now keeping in touch via whatsapp.

Perhaps you can discuss with your dd the various ways of keeping in touch with her friends as well as other opportunities that Nan Hua can provide for her.

Any idea how long will the entire presentation ceremony take?

The letter we receive states that each award recipient can only bring along 1 guest. So it's either dh or me attending the event with dd. Am wondering is this standard practice?
We were told to be there early if we intend to bring along guests.

So the kids are allocated based on their performance in p4 classes and not p3 right?

If yes, can share which are the better classes and so forth.
Kids are allocated P4 classes based on P3 end year results. But hearsay from a friend, there is some subtle 'banding' from P2 to P3. During her dd's time (her dd has since graduated), the girls seemed to be banded together according to Math results. Also, in order to take HCL in P3, the girls' P2 CL end year results must be among the top 20%.

There are more chances of performing in primary school- is it? How is this so?

Yup, I will keep an open mind and an open wallet (to fund his music lessons). 😆 his opinion is valued and will be taken into consideration. So long as he is keen...

In my daughter's school, the girls can audition for opportunities to play their instruments during assembly on certain days. For my son's, the school also tries to organise an annual 'talents show' day. Besides, students are also welcome to perform on Teachers' Days. In his previous school, his ex-classmate did a piano duet with her brother on a special school occasion. If one keeps a lookout, there bound to be chances to perform within the school.

You are so right about having an open wallet. :moneyflies:

Don't put your hopes up. My kids never had any opportunities to perform solo in school. Only with their CCA grp. I think only ONCE for one of my kids and it was for a CCA promotional event.[/quote]Phankao, those opportunities in my kids' schools are not related to CCA. Mostly once-off events. My daughter's school is especially encouraging and supportive in this area. According to my daughter, the school tries to hold such performances twice weekly.

But for my son's school, you are right. There are fewer such opportunities.
