Before cut, do these indep schools receive more funding than other schools?

It was reported that each IP and GEP student used to entitle the sch to receive additional funding. So in this sense, yes (since the top sch are packed with such pupils).

I'm shocked to read that the IP funding will be totally removed. 🤷

I was smiling when I read this news:)

Coz I been waiting for more than 20yrs for this to be brought up!!
Though I was from RGS, whenever I took bus and passed by RI,& saw the swimming pool and stadium (then at Kim seng), I can’t help but wonder why they can have such fantastic facilitie(in the 80s!!), and yet we didn’t:)
So how should other schools feel?:)

At that time, I didn’t think of the difference in govt funding…thought was built through alumni donation…and there was common notion that RI gets more funding than RGS…don’t flame me for this…just sharing a common impression at that era…some sort like 重男轻女:)

Sorry, my earlier qn wasnt v complete. I meant do these indep IP schools receive more funding than govt. IP schools on a per IP student basis. If more, it is fair to reduce to the same level. However, if it is now totally removed but the govt IP schools continue to get funding, this doesnt seem fair.

I read it as IP funding ($x per student), be they from Independent or govt schs will be removed.

I guess for parents with deep pockets, this won’t matter so much as they can always compensate and send their dc to the best training courses & for other exposure, themselves.

Hmm... the article only specifically mentioned 6 indep IP schools leh.

So i read it as IP schools such as NJC, DHS, RVHS are not affected.

I hope this change will not increase the school fees.

Think your hunch is rite, dimsum. Mabbe only independent schs are affected.

The ST report on February 3, 2014 (\"Funding cuts for top independent schools in S'pore\") stated that \"six top independent schools in Singapore have had their funding cut\". That was inaccurate.

Arising from MOE’s review of funding for the independent schools, six schools received additional funding, and four schools had their funding trimmed.

Three of the schools saw an increase in funding of about 5% in 2014 compared to 2013. Another three schools will get between 1 to 3% more, and the remaining four schools will experience a reduction of no more than 3%.

So which are the 6 schools receiving additional funding?
From the report, seems that the 3 of 4 trimmed are RGS, NYGH, RI..which is the 4th one?

The 1st article mentioned 6 independent schools funding cut, not IP schools.

The other IP schools all receiving minimal school fees from students. If MOE cut funding further, how to sustain?

There should be more independent schools than the 6 mentioned. What about funding for the rest like SJI or SST?
