Dear mummies who have completed the 四五快读, can I get some advises from you. My daughter has no difficulty remembering characters like 草 风 爸 土 which she can relate to , but characters like 聪 孩 戏 习 she is taking long time to remember and often forgets. Do u all introduce single character or two character to form a meaning to your children? I find that if I will to introduce single character she can make what is the word about . But if I intro two character , end of the day she dun know which character stands for what. Please help.

Dear all mummies with experience with siwukuaidu

I just started on book 1 lesson 1. There's this word xiao ren, I thought is used to mean a person of vile character but in the book it seems to refer to a child. Which is right? Or am I mistaken?

Thanks in advance for all advice.
I told DS that xiao ren is not suitable to use in Singapore, xiao hai zi is more appropriate here. More importantly is to be able to recognize and pronounce the words correctly.

For words that DS took longer time to remember, I would underline it and use it to construct an interesting sentence to create a deeper impression. Repetitive practice is also important.

i've not checked my siwukuaidu, but intuitively, i'd imagine it to hv some picture/context/story/nursery rhyme to intro new vocab? else it'd be very dry for the poor kid right? isn't that what the professional lang centres are doing? :? :?

In fact, there are guidelines on how to carry out the lessons. But usually I never follow exactly.

For characters that she is taking a long time to remember and often forgets, you just have to make use of different methods to get them registered her brain e.g. flashing the character cards, play games, repetitive reading of the passages with the words appearing. The words will continue to appear in subsequent books. So, she may remember subsequently.

                    Hi,

For comprehension, my p1 child likes to use her own way of expressing the answer. Most of the time, she could get the gist of the answer. However the answer is often not compete or the sentence structure is flawed. Morever there are many words she does not know how to write as well…

I have asked her to lift the answer from the passage as advised d by some tutors for lower primary. However she can be v stubborn and retorted that for english compre, they are taught not to lift from the passage.

Partly I think it is the writing part which puts her off also…esp when the answer is v long…

any good tips for sharing on how to go about teaching compre to lower pri kids? Esp those who are not particularly strong in the subject.

                    many tks.
