magazines for teenagers - recommendation

I think Broader Perspective (extremely useful for expository writing, it helps me a lot when I was in JC) and Reader Digest are worth subscribing.
My personal comments on these titles which we tried recently (my kids are 15 and 17yo):
Reader's Digest - disappointing compared to what I recall from my own teen years. Stories are less varied and less substantial, language is also simpler than before, and the magazine is a lot thinner than in the past!
Broader Persepctive - also disappointing. My kids flatly refused to read them after a couple of attempts as they are too 'school'-ish and not very interesting (to them, anyway). I read a few and find the writing either poorly expressed or overly bombastic. The content is OK, but if not well written, it's really hard to read. I'm not sure I want my kids to learn to write that way.
I'm looking for more suitable magazines too. I don't think my kids can keep up with a weekly like Time, and the Economist would drown them! -
Ds was introduced to reader digest by his PRI Eng teacher as compulsory reading material in p6. He didn't like the feel of flipping the A5 book
Broader Perspective is definitely out as what you described - too school-ish and unappealing design of the magazine.
Knowledge BBC is good as the topics are of wider range, some are too high level for Ds.
I'm not sure if Economist would be too challenging for him. He only reads online news, not even newspapers but he will flip through newspaper to look for obituary section, his favorite section :faint:
