Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

No...not yet. His friend asked him to help get telephone no from a female classmate. He told the friend to approach directly, if he likes her.

Son was from a co-ed primary school but he never had any problems with that...his company then was boys. So far so good until now at sec school.

I won't recommend it.Hi all,
I have a boy born on 2 Jan 2009. According to MOE rules, he will only be eligible for P1 registration in Jul 2015 and he is supposed to start P1 in Jan 2016.
I understand that children born on 1 Jan 2009 are eligible to start P1 in Jan 2015. I would like my boy to start P1 in Jan 2015. Any idea who I should write to in order to appeal? Will the Principal be the appropriate person to speak to?
Instead of being the oldest in class, your child will be the youngest.
He will likely be the least developed, in terms of both mentally and
physically, so he could have a hard time catching up with the class.
DD had a classmate born in late December. For the first several months,
he frequently cried in class. -
Hi everyone, im new here. Next year my son starts P1, he has already secured a place in River Valley Primary School due to his mum is a former student. Currently, we are discussing whether to let him study at Zhangde Primary School as it is walkable distance from our house (less than 10 mins). Everyone know these two schools well? We are driving him to school so we would like to know how is the traffic there in the morning? There is no place to place our car so we just park outside the school? Can anyone suggest which school is better? If given a choice, which school will you enroll your kid and why?
Thanks

But if really distance is a concern then Zhangde is the one for you. However, if you are under phrase 2C now, high chance you will need to join in balloting with the rest under 2C (within 1km). -
Thank for the advice! Last resort try Alexander Primary

Why without doubt RVPS over APS?
The decision is torn between my husband and me now. He likes APS becaus he thinks APS is new and the P and her team can steer the school to greater heights but RVPS is already "established" and the culture and performance is shaped. He thinks RVPS teachers are more complacent without the drive like those in APS who joined the school to face the new challenge.
I am alright with both schools just little worried about the run down hardware and the attitude of the teachers at RVPS where I didn’t see so much drive and passion in them.
Any parent please share your opinion about the two schools.
Thank you. -

Actually you've already listed down the pros and cons and you know what you want. Why without doubt RVPS over APS?

Hi…I am a newbie. Not sure if this is the right forum to ask. I am considering between St Stephen’s and St Gabriel’s. St Gabriel’s is nearer to my house. But I am inclined towards St Stephen’s because of its affiliation to 2 secondary schools. But the reviews of/comments on St Stephen’s have not been very good - bullying, teachers not responsive in addressing the bullying (i am not really sure if these are true or just hear say…but these are the comments that have been posted in regards to the school).
I am looking for a school that provides a caring, encouraging environment. I prefer a holistic education rather than one that focuses academic results.
Does anyone have any experience on one or both of these schools? would appreciate it if anyone can share their experience. Thanks. -
Hi currently we are stay at Pasir Ris but going to move to Punggol nxt year. I did put my girl’s name in some primary schools.
Mee Toh Pri called me to submit her SA1 results seems got some hope but they can only confirm whether is there any placement during Nov. Now Edgefield Pri told me there’s a vacancy for her and she must transfer ASAP.
I really caught in between bcos I no sure shld I just take Edgefield or wait for Mee Toh. Anyone know more about these 2 schools, pls advice, thanks -
i’m sorry but now i’m more confused… i appreciate the parents listing the pros and cons but it is making things more complicated…cos firstly we cant even seem to get our choice of sch due to limited vacancies (sudden surprises from phase 1 and phase 2A) / balloting by distance / ability to enrol as parent volunteer…so how is it that we guarantee what we aim is what we get??..
APS is within 1km whilst RMPS and RVPS are 1-2km for me and I have to join PV by next yr… my worry is more of my chances of getting in… and I dont even know if I should volunteer to up my chances? If I target RMPS, I believe I have no choice but to volunteer cos its very very competitive… but i’m not even sure if i can enrol into PV and I heard getting into PV need not guarantee anything even if u clock the necessary hrs - why is this so?? is it cos of balloting on actual day of registration or due to other factors in the registration system???
My hubby is more worried and says I better volunteer at APS even though I’m within 1km (though i’ve not heard of PV in APS yet) cos by the time my girl is due to register for P1, I might face more competition and my best chances are only with APS by distance and we all know APS already did balloting in phase 2c in its first year of P1 registration.
If anyone can advise, really which sch is worth volunteering for (in terms of increasing chances of getting in), I would greatly appreciate it. We might not have info for APS but is RVPS voluteering scheme tougher than RMPS? Or is RVPS PV more popular (i.e. competitive) than RMPS or the other way round? I just want to make sure I am able to increase my chance for more than 1 sch, to play safe, instead of pin all my hopes in APS…cos nothing is guaranteed…
