dd says the list of shortlisted CCAs for the girls were pinned up on the notice board. If the child signs beside the shortlisted CCA, that means she's in already. don't remember seeing any forms for CCA actually. Officially CCA will start after CNY. But for those preselected (or shortlisted), they can start next week.
Gosh! Has CCA registration started? Or even ended?
How is the registration done? There isn't any form nor is there online registration! My daughter says that they only need to inform the PE teacher of the choices and it will be done next week.
I better check with her........ -
Hi Parents of Sec 1 girls at SMSS
How are your girls coping with sec 1 Math, Science and all the new subjects? Just want to gather some feedback cos my daughter feels she does not understand the stuff taught and can’t catch up. She is worrying me as for the first time she feels she is ‘slow’ and ‘stupid’. I am resisting sending her for tuition at Sec 1. -
Poonie:
Is it just one or two subjects? Give her some time as the transition from primary to secondary is quite drastic (from 4 subjects to 7?) How about the tests? How did she do so far? I think try to encourage her to clarify with the teachers if she does not understand - right away. Don't accumulate doubts. I agree at sec level, kind of hard to go for tuition as already got to attend CCA plus other activities so there's hardly time to squeeze in tuition.Hi Parents of Sec 1 girls at SMSS

She probably just needs some time to adjust to secondary level. After clarifying her doubts with the teachers, try to revise constantly and read ahead of the teacher, so it's easier to catch up. The only problem is I don't think the girls are given the year's syllabus for the subjects. I think I saw only the science one. Without the syllabus, it's hard to predict what the teacher is going to do next, so it's hard to read ahead.
My dd is also adjusting.....and trying to juggle between other activities and studies.
Hopefully our girls will improve over time... -
Hi Kittycat
Thanks for responding. Does your dd complain about school work being difficult? Just wondering if my dd is the only one who can’t cope. The 3-4 times she has to spend at CCA also left her with little time to do homework. -
Poonie:
My dd didn't really complain about the difficulty of the school work, only once, she clarified one geography concept with her brother who is in sec 3. But then again, she's the relaxed type. When I asked her if she understood so far, she said yes. So I really hope it's the case she understands all that's been taught. And yes, her CCA is also 3 X a week and she also has little time to study. I think they have to learn to manage her time properly - she needs to improve in time management as she tends to dilly dally a lot when she gets home. I've to constantly remind her to get started.Hi Kittycat
