Has any parents heard about Harbridge Star Academy at Sports Lifestyle Centre at Bukit Merah Central? It is a music school that teaches pop, classic , jazz. I am thinking of sending my boy for his classic piano lesson due to proximity from my residential area. Thanks

I am also looking for a piano teacher who is able to travel to my place near Bukit Merah to teach my boy who is a beginner. Mon, Tue or Thur afternoon class. Any interested tutors please PM me. Thanks.

Hi,
I’m in the midst of getting a new teacher for my boy who is doing Grade 2. I have on hand 2 teachers to consider.
One is a LTCL Diploma holder with 4 years of teaching experience and the other has LRSM and more than 10 years of teaching experience.
The one with LTCL can come to my place to teach and charges a lower fee as compared to the LRSM one which charges a slightly higher fee and I have to send my boy over to her place.
Anyone can advise which I should take?
Thanks! -

If both these teachers' LTCL and LRSM are both in performance, then you will still not be able to tell if they are good teachers. But at least the one with LRSM will be competent in sight-reading and have decent knowledge in playing.Hi,

I would still approach both with cautions and ask the right questions to see if they are good teachers. Check especially if the teacher is familiar with ABRSM syllabus requirement and can explain to you the marking criteria. The teacher should also be able to explain a preliminary plan and timeline in preparing for an exam. -
Hi Dreamsaurora,
The one with LTCL is in performance recital
and actually both are charging the same
high rate.
Thanks for yr valuable advice! I will try to
call and ask the teacher with LRSM those
questions to qualify her.
Another question on my mind is do I
need such a highly qualified teacher
to teach my grade 2 boy and pay such a high
rate or someone with a diploma in teaching from
ABRSM will do.
Need yr advice again!
Thank you

As I mentioned before in this thread, any dedicated teaching qualification is more valuable than any performance diplomas/degrees. So really, a teacher with DipABRSM Teaching is more qualified to teach than just a pure LRSM/LTCL Performance holder.Hi Dreamsaurora,

Well, I have Honors in piano performance and almost half of my students population is lower than grade 5
It is always my firm belief that the best course for a student is to start immediately with a very good teacher from beginner all the way to grade 8. But unfortunately, many parents are hesitant to pay the premium fee charged by good teachers for fear of lost of interest, or they just simply do not know where to find these good teachers and just go for the one most convenient.

Building the right foundation is so important. Get a good start and the child may find the grades less of a uphill struggle.

Hi - my daughter is currently learning pianio at a school, but i am thinking of moving her to private lessons in our own place so she has a single dedicated teacher throughout her learning journey. She is still at beginner stage, having started last year after she turned 8. Would appreciate if anyone who knows of private piano teachers in sengkang to PM me. Thanks!!
