All About A Levels

I am trying to get some advanced info for my ds who will be going to JC next year.
Can anyone provide info - academic performance, culture, level of competitiveness - for the following JCs -
AJC
ACJC
SAJC
MJC
I donโt think the COP will be an accurate indicator of their ranking (based on A level results) so any inside info will be helpful.
Thanks. -
AJC h2 math paper is very tough, well known as killer paper. Their Alevel h2 math distinction rate is 62.8%, well above national average of 50%. The two teachers who taught me maths C and further math more than 20 years ago are still there teaching. So they have very experienced and good math teachers.
MJC h2 math notes is very good. Can see the teachers putting a lot of effort in compiling a good set of notes, and practice questions ranging from basic, intermediate and advanced.
ACJC h2 math standard is also quite high. Their promo paper not easy.
Further Math will be offered in JC1 students entering 2016. However, looks like not all JCs will offer further math. HCI and NJC confirm offer Further Math, as they publish on their website. i guess AJC should offer Further Math, since they have experienced teachers able to teach the subject. New JCs may not have experienced teachers able to teach further math. -
Thank you for the info on H2 Maths. Any ideas abt the other subjects? Also, what about the teachers in the JCs which I mentioned?
I heard that one of the mid tier JCs which is gaining popularity lately doesnโt have very good teachers (not motivating enuf). So I am striking this one out. -
I suggest that you visit their Open House if possible. Talk to the current students there. You will be surprised by how much information they will be willing to share.

It would be very challenging for both the students and the teachers after about a decade of break. Teachers who have taught F Math before have to \"revise\" their math notes again in order to teach it effectively. For those new teachers who have not been exposed to F Math before.....wonder how are they going to handle it. Lol, time for me to revise my old notesFurther Mathematics is back for the A Levels, and will only be offered as a H2 subject.

Looking at NJC's combi example for F. Maths, it looks like students taking this subject will be similar to the old A level double maths, physics, econs combi. (Although students have a choice to substitute chemistry for physics). 4 H2s.

It can be done. My husband did a relief teaching stint (teaching F maths, RJC) after working 9 yrs in a non-related field. Those younger teachers who didn't F Maths would have done maths in university, so it should be OK for them.

I can also teach further mathematics immediately. But to teach effectively and smoothly, you need to be exposed to it constantly. Also, there's a great different between relief teaching and full time teacher. In my opinion, when a relief teacher make mistake (I don't imply your husband make mistake), the general consensus is that it will be more forgiving.

Iโm quite sure that JCs and MOE will arrange refresher courses for the teachers in F Maths. I wonder how many students will opt to take it? My daughter flatly refused because it would reduce her to just 1 science.
